Hi, we are considering buying a 2022 Corolla. It had its 1st service in line with the warranty but not at Toyota. They did not get a Battery health check so we asked them to do this before we purchased. They said they attempted to do this but we’re told they couldn’t get enough data and needed to complete another 400 miles before this could be done. Does anyone know why this would happen. I don’t want to buy a car if it’s not 100% ok. It’s done 6500 miles but is over a year old. We seem to get different info from different people even within Toyota.

For some reasons I still am blissfully ignorant of, if the 12v Battery is disconnected or changed, they can't do a HHC until the car has been driven 500 miles, so it's probably something like that.

If it's a good deal and you want it, I'd say go for it. The hybrids are generally some of the most reliable cars as nothing gets very stressed under normal use. The new ones haven't shown any common mechanical issues, mostly just software bugfixes which should be updated by the dealer anyway.

Possibly the 12 volt Battery was disconnected.

The high voltage Battery is under a 10 year warranty even with new owners.

Presumably 'They' are the non-Toyota dealer?

How old is the car when you say it is over a year old? Toyota service intervals are every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first, so depending how old the car actually is, the service may have been overdue which could affect the Toyota warranty.

When you say the Battery health check, presume you mean the equivalent to Toyota's hybrid health check?  Has the Battery been changed or disconnected by the dealer??

Ask for a free health check on the HV Battery once you compleate the 400 or 500 miles before you perchase it.

Moved to the Corolla forum.

Well I believe the car has dead or nearly dead 12v Battery and as a result the voltage has been going down lower than minimum threshold, likely to be jump started and the ecu restarted which is the reason why hybrid health check was not possible. This does not suggest that the car is bad at all.
If the car is in good shape apart from that little issue you can ask for new original 12v Battery £150 from Toyota or the equivalent money discount, purchase the car and after you drive these 500 miles you can go to Toyota to run a health check or you can even do a whole new service to get stamp in the book and to make sure if anything happens which is very unlikely you will be covered by the manufacturer warranty without any issues. Why a brand new car was not serviced at Toyota dealer it’s also strange, it might not been serviced at all. As mentioned already Toyota service intervals are 12 months or 10000 miles.  It seems the car been seating around without use for some time. 👍
