Toyota v Lexus

Sorry if this is not an appropriate question on this Forum, but I have my reasons for asking the question:

Does anyone on this Forum have the user experience to answer the question: Is a Lexus vehicle far better , only equal to, or worse than a Toyota vehicle? I am particularly interested in respect of the ride/suspension (comfort) and the reliability/service/costs of running a Lexus.

Many and Regards, John

Hi John,

You may or may not be aware that Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota. Having owned a couple I can honestly say that the Lexus ride and comfort in my opinion, are second to none.

What model are you looking at in the Lexus range? Toyota have many new models and ride comfort in both brands will always be very much an individual choice as one size does not fit all.

Service costs and parts are a lot higher with Lexus and reliability is excellent as is Toyota.

If you post the models you are interested in then perhaps owners who have owned both Lexus and Toyota will share their opinions.

Personally, I would test drive the Lexus models you are interested in and then do the same with equivalent Toyota models, that way you can judge for yourself.

My own experience of Lexus ownership along with having test drives of numerous Toyota models rates Lexus as far better in all respects but I am sure others may have differing opinions. 😊

You will notice a lot of difference when it comes to road noise (wind and bumpy roads), not just build quality.

I will try and cut a long story short.

I also own a S-Type jaguar, as well as my 2012 Avensis T-Spirit. Jaguar can be very expensive and troublesome with constant messages/codes. However it is a major comfort to ride in. The Avensis is, as I expected nowhere near as comfortable and quite as the Jaguar. Being now 73 years of age and always having run Japanese cars such as Nissan 200SX and Skyline, I wanted to return to Japanese cars for reliability. The Avensis does not really meet the requirement of Ride/Comfort. I am considering changing to a Lexus (Petrol and Auto) of a similar size to the Avensis. My S-Type has done 68,000 miles and is 18 years of age. The Avensis is ten years old and has done 89,000 miles (Diesel and Manual).

I will not buy new and will be looking for something with low mileage, not above 65,000 miles.

Looking forward to recommendations. Regards, John

Hi Jon,

If you are looking for the equivalent to the avensis then take a look at this link and it will show how they compare. As you are looking at at a used Lexus around the 60,000 miles you could also look at the GS300 which is bigger but still averages 30-35 mpg but costs on repair and parts will be higher.

As I said in my previous reply you really need to go to a dealer and test drive a few they will welcome you doing so.👍
