New led fogs

Just put Phillips Ultinon pro5000 into the fogs.

No error messages on the dash.

They're not the cheapest but you hope being Philips they should last a little while.

They're not too much brighter than the halogens which I'm glad of, I wanted more matching colour and not brightness

The drivers side was harder than passengers as there's more gubbins in the way but they're both easy to get to.

I'll post a night pic later.

Be interesting to see a nighttime comparison.

Too late for that most probably 😅

Do you guys actually use the fog lights? Haven't turned them on yet and I own the car for over a year.

I don't use them for fog but on unlit country roads I find them really useful for lighting the road close to and to the side of the front of the car.

Annoyingly they are now 5 quid cheaper than 2 days ago. 😀

Philips Ultinon Pro5100 LED car foglight bulb (H8/H11/H16), +160%, 5.800K, set of 2 https://amzn.eu/d/jlxL6NG

Not often, but having experienced pea-soup levels of fog in a car that didn't have any, I wouldn't go without them!

It's the worst feeling when you're on the motorway in thick fog, driving with just your sidelights and rear fogs on, and you're using other cars to gauge where the road is, because the fog is so thick if you turn your dipped or main beams on, all you can see is a sheet of white reflected light a metre in front of you and nothing else!!

The fogs are 5800k and I believe the headlights are 6000k so near enough for me and look better than the halogens

I considered doing the fog lights when I did other bulb upgrades, just like you said, for colour similarity rather than anything else. However, I was put off after doing some reading online which suggested you need to match the reflector to LED bulbs as they differ from those designed for halogen bulbs. A lot of people seem to think it would fail MOT for this reason. I guess they could be swopped back to pass an MOT but I'd be more concerned if performance was affected if the reflector shape was wrong. I guess you haven't had chance to test them in fog since fitting them to see how they perform?

In the end, I've had the car 18 months which is probably going to be half it's lifetime in my ownership and I've used the front fogs once so with hindsight it wouldn't be worth me bothering.

So if you are doing headlights yes, you might struggle in an mot.

But fogs should be fine, and they're easy enough to swap back in.

I didn't mention though that for these leds they are adjustable, you have to set them so the "bulb" is perpendicular in the housing, to get the correct beam.

It's not often we get fog my way but I'm often driving on unlit dcs and motorways, and I use the front fogs all the time for these.

I had a drive back last night on an unlit road and it really made a difference.

It lit up the road just in front and to the side of the car.

It is technically illegal to use fog lamps when it isn’t foggy. I know someone who got pulled by the police over it.

I have noticed round here, that there are a lot of drivers of older cars without DRLs, like mine is, using front fog lights during bright daylight in an attempt to emulate the DRLs of newer cars.

Of course, this fake modernising of old cars is nothing new, I remember well buying aero wiper clip ons for my Anglia van from the local Carlos Fandango accessory shop.

They were designed,if I remember, for le mans racing cars, doing the 24 hour at 150 odd mph, to keep the wipers in contact with the windscreen at high speed.

Hardly necessary on a clapped out Anglia van that would struggle to do 50 mph on a good day.

But at the time, being young, and owning platform soled shoes, and a strong belief in stupid trends, thought that they elevated me to Steve McQueen levels of cool.

Now, I just try not to be noticed by road ragers, and be generally invisible.

Well as you own a Mk1 T-Sport, I still think you're cool

They'd have to pull over 90% of London traffic
