Personally I think they are a pain in the posterior - easy enough to have them removed. Wouldn’t stop me buying the car! Hope you like it.

I do not like side steps and would not want them fitted to my car. They pick up a lot of road muck and tend to redeposit it onto your trousers as you get in and out. I've never really found them to be of much practical use.  You could argue that it's easier to get access to the roof but I'd prefer the stability and manoeuvrability of a step stool.

You could try accessing a RAV without the side steps and do a comparison. BTW I'm slightly older  than you if that helps? Nice looking car and at least you have short circuited the long waiting times.

Hi Phillip, I used to have a Landrover Freelander anniversary model which came as new with sidesteps fitted.

Although they did look good they did make it awkward getting in and out as you don't actually use them to step on but need to step over them.

Also as previous posts they do get very dirty, etc not ideal for a lady to have to negotiate. They do however protect the doors to some extent from parking dings and muck coming up from the road.

Very easy to remove if you so chose and certainly would not put me off buying the car. I would leave them on initially and see how you get on with them 👍

If you find the Mercedes hard to get in and out of, and with respect I can understand that at your age, I would take the car (subject to test drive) with the steps on. If you find that they are more of a hindrance than a benefit then you can always have them removed and sell them later.

Hello update on my rav4 test drive today all good with the car I pick it up 8th March the sidestep issue. I didn't find them helpful my partner always sits in the back wouldn't like them at all (she's in Bahrain visiting) the dealership will remove them replace any grommets and put them in the  car when I pick it up. I will sell them next month on the forum selling page. Dealer confirmed they are genuine Toyota  running boards put on at the factory in the UK.
