Suzuki Across Roof Rail Leaks

Having read the nightmare stories of the cost to repair after the roof leak issue, I was wondering if there was any preventative maintenance could be undertaken?

My warranty is up in October anyway, so formulating a plan for around that date.

Hi Derek, I haven't seen a great deal of posts or info on this issue, don't know how widespread the problem is ?

Hi Derek, not sure if you have a powered moonroof fixed but came across this video on maintenance on the moonroofs. It's worth a look because it highlights the problems that can occur and what to do. Hope it helps.

Presumably your Across is older than the 2023 shown in your profile  - please confirm when the vehicle was first registered as that should be the year in your profile.

Thanks for this. The problem I've read about is the roof rail mounts allowing water ingress - not specifically the moon roof.

I don't have the problem, just wondered if there was a pre-emptive fix.

Thanks again!

nor has anyone else on this forum as far as I can tell ... that doesn't mean that it can happen but it is hardly a widespread issue for RAV 4.5s in the UK. UK RAV 4.5s are built in Japan ...

... the quoted report suggests that it may be a problem in the US. US RAV4.5s are built in Canada.

Maybe? 😉

Thanks, that's reassuring. I'll leave off the preventative maintenance as I could just make it more likely to occur!

The moonroof isn’t available on the Across - no options are other than paint colour and a few dealer fit baubles. The roof rail leak issue is (as otters have stated) related to a particular factory which does not supply the UK.

Had zero moonroof leak issues. Utterly torrential rain up here in the NW and Lakes. Not a single drop. Open and close the moon roof all the time from April to August so in use a lot. Plenty of opportunities for dirt and bits to cause issues but no problems at all. Whereas my Peugeot 3008 hybrid4 GT 300 was leaking from the start. Dealer tried probably 8 times to fix and 4 different approaches and mods. Made zero difference. Gave that carbage back in the end but there are dozens of suffering folk on the Pukegoat forum.

I had a Peugeot back in 2003. Never again! Besieged by automatic gearbox problems. It had two new gearboxes within a year due to rough gear change. First gearbox destroyed itself. Time would reveal the AT4 to be the biggest piece of junk ever built.
