Toyota Main Dealers - Diagnostic Test?

I now tend to get suspicious when they blame the injectors - Toyota injectors are extremely robust and unless they've been abused, are really old, or have had contaminated fuel go through them, it is very unusual for them to fail.

But so many people post about problems here and diagnostics always seem to blame the injectors only for it to turn out to be something else!

I've seen this in real life too - When my friend's diesel A3 had a running issue, garage diagnosed it as injectors with a predictably high cost. He got our travelling mechanic to have a look at them for a second opinion; He just took them out, soaked them in brake cleaner, then put them back in - Problem solved!

Another time, my dad's Focus was suffering from a lack of power; Garage said it was the injectors, neighbour had a look, turned out it was just the diesel fuel filter!

I must say I've not been impressed with the average Toyota dealer's diagnostics so far - I expect something of the level of what the Car Care Nut guy does, but the few times I've caved and paid for diagnostics so far, what I always get seems to just be a vague guess and a quote for the Parts Cannon.
