RAV4 PHEV - Headlights on dip beam - we keep getting flashed

We’ve a RAV4 PHEV 2022, when driving at night on dipped beam, we keep getting flashed by oncoming drivers!!

Not on main beam and the lights do point slightly in to the left as you would expect.  Has anybody any advice or experiences of this before I contact the main dealer?

I’ve looked through the manual and scrolled through all the menus and I’m none the wiser!!

That doesn't seem to be a typical problem. The LED headlights are bright enough but well dipped with a sharp cut-off. They don't typically dazzle oncoming drivers and folk don't generally complain that they do. If anything the complaints we do hear are that they are not high enough!

I'd suggest that you take it to a dealer or MoT test centre to have them checked and adjusted if necessary...

Definitely not high enough on low beam for me 👍

Are you sure the auto high beam isn't on? Sometimes it can be little delayed going back to dipped.

Or me, I'd say they are on the low side and to the left rather than high and right.

Nor me. Maybe the OP’s sensor is dirty?

Are the lights self levelling?

On my Yaris Cross the recommended setting is too high. Setting at an acceptable level for vision and others generally OK.

However on undulating roads my beams are high in relation to the approaching vehicle.

Are you getting flashed all the time or just on undulating roads?

The auto function most likely as anything else auto can play you a game., or wrongly positioned with the rotary switch if you have any.
Any suv lights and particularly leds will disturb oncoming traffic as they have the headlights fitted higher than standard cars plus many suv are on the longer side which cause the car to lever up and down on uneven road., the Rav4  it’s not exception. You can take my word for it as from someone from the other side and I do get blinded by ravs4 every night.  Lexuses, Audis which are the worst, Mercedes’, bmw mostly the suv ones. 👍

The RAV4 lights are self levelling, I also think mine are set on the low side. I don't like the auto dip function as it is sometimes on the slow side.

I got flashed a fair bit too; Have adjusted my LEDs to position 1 (2 clicks of the dial) so the light level is below most people's numberplates, and this has greatly reduced the flashes I get.

That said, practically everyone is blinding me with not a care so TBH I wouldn't worry about it, blind 'em back.

That said, ARE they flashing you, or is is just bumps in the road? At the default level for projector-type lights, any undulation will make them bounce up to look like they're flashing and it can be tricky to tell that apart from a genuine high-beam flash.

I remember once I was driving some friends to London at night, and there's a road called the Ridgeway, which is very well named because it's really badly maintained and is very prone to subsidence and it's like being on a roller coaster in some sections

They were getting angry at other drivers because, to them, it looked like they were flashing us, and I had to explain it's just the undulations of the road making the head lights jump up and down

The Ridgeway is where my car get tested on daily basis 👍

Very well explained about it 👌

I have found the auto function tends to flash oncoming drivers occasionally. I.e. an oncoming vehicle passes and it hasn't yet spotted the next one so momentarily goes to full beam.

As far as the other driver is concerned, I've just flashed them.

That could be what you're experiencing.

I switched it off tonight for that reason.

It could be also that the cars coming the other way are also on a forum somewhere saying just the same thing, "I keep getting flashed", similar technology?

For the sake of your driving safety, try to go to the garage early for inspection

I see more often how people in newish cars with led simply keep driving on full beams without switching these off when oncoming cars are close.
Not to mention that even when at distance these powerful blue led lights are super distracting. Who to blame more , the drivers etiquette or the system auto function that is failing to react accordingly.?  Very rarest I see modern cars without this parts issue. Lately been passed by a new Mercedes s class and Corolla excel with excellent light ahead without any disturbance to me. 👌

The Cross can be a bit variable. I often have cause to disable auto-highbeam and do it myself. It's not bad, but not sure why some nights it is great, and others poor.

My wife had same on her Yaris Cross. Just needed to adjust the headlight height adjuster and bring light beam down a touch. No more flashing!
