Can someone please confirm the type of Battery that is fitted as auxiliary 12v Battery

I’m looking to get a trickle charger and need to know if it’s just a lead acid type or an AGM version

any info would be much appreciated

Steve

Just buy a charger that covers both types or  CTEC covers wet,MF,Ca/Ca, Gel & AGM

I expect a GEL type in your vehicle.

I think all the Yaris/Cross hybrids use AGM, as Toyota tend to use AGM for batteries that are inside the car for safety reasons.

Thank You both for your answers.

I ordered a charger that covers all types.

Its just that you have to set the charger manually to the correct type.

I did contact the dealership, but i'm not convinced that their answer(Lead acid) rang true for such a modern car.

AGM would have been my thought too.

But without stripping the back seat out of my car to look.

I was just hoping someone in the forum had seen one for themselves.

Thanks again for your replies

Steve

Derek's original Battery, the multu 28800-k0020 is not an AGM type, even direct replacement "VARTA ® 5444010423132" is not an AGM type. Original toyota Battery is AGM, but obviously, not all yarises are fit with the same Battery and AGM type is not a standard. Maybe in some countries they toyota is ok with acid in your children's eyes. (as you mentioned this concern about non-agm type batteries.)

It may shorten its life by a tiny bit but as long as you don't keep making the same mistake then any bad effects will be minimal.

Cyker my Yaris hybrid is not fitted/supplied New with a AGM Battery from New so I presume AGM used only on Yaris cross.

The Mk4 and Cross use a Calcium Lead acid (aka JIS LN0), the Mk 3 hybrid uses an AGM

The Cross is just a Yaris in fat suit

According to the discussion, both types are mounted in the MK4.

Mk4 yaris and Cross use a calcium lead acid, i have checked this many times in the EPC (the UK only has Hybrid cars with the 1.5)

S34B20R is for the mk3

the first build dates on the Mk4 is 07/2020 and 07/2021 for the cross they are specced from the factor with JIS LN0 - what is a calcium lead acid

Is that a sealed lead-acid or not?

It wont fit the MK4 plus other issue are holding it down mechanically in a mk4 plus if you try and connect it to a mk4 you going to do £1000s pounds worth of dammage as the positive and necitive termanals are the opposite way around.

I won't cause any damage if my steering wheel is on the left
with this picture I just wanted to show that the Battery should be AGM
when the weather gets better, I'll lift the back seat and take a picture of the Battery

If you look the pictures of the Battery Derek removed from his Yaris, you'll see that is not an AGM one.

Looking the picture Anchorman posted in the "Back seat removal" thread you see that is probably the same Battery as Derek one. Maybe the supplier could change according to the car production lot, but I expect that is always a plated Ca/Lead Acid Battery

So what setting should be used on a CTEK charger, lead acid or AGM?

I looked at this last night and it should be on lead acid by the look of it..

My CTEK doesn’t have settings.  It says any Battery can be charged but it’s “optimised” for AGM whatever that means.
