Is anyone else having a lot more punctures?

Over my many years of motoring (45+) I can count the number of punctures sustained on the fingers of one hand - and that was covering anything up to 30k miles per year. That was until two years ago anyway. Since then I have lost two tyres to a pothole, one tyre inner sidewall torn (even the tyre fitter couldn’t see how that happened) one puncture requiring a new tyre - and yesterday another puncture that is now at the fitters for repair. All in the space of 17k miles. Am I just darned unlucky? - or is there a lot more debris on the roads?

And purely by coincidence, I had just ordered the piggy-back TPMS module from AilExpress. At least I will now which tyre is going down next time.

I went through a period where I seemed to picking up a load of punctures every year, but these were almost all due to nails/bolts/debris (And maybe one or two from pot holes or being forced off the road IIRC).

It's what made me try that puncturesafe stuff way back when! (Conclusion: Excellent at sealing punctures on the fly but causes unavoidable wheel imbalance resonance at certain speeds)

I seem to be out of that period as I haven't had one for a while, although I'm suspicious my left rear may have one as it's consistently 1-2 psi lower than all the others despite me pumping it back up... I'm pretty sure I've avoided a load of pinch punctures from potholes on the Mk4 due to changing from 17's to 15's, as it's taken some heavy impacts over the past year or so due to the numerous cavernous potholes seemingly appearing overnight! The local councils and Highways are really slacking on the pothole repairs atm, and when they do reapir them they really seem to be jobsworthing it as I'll report one, they don't fill it for ages, and when they do fill it they only fill that one and not the one 2 metres away from it that has formed in the intervening time!!

My colleague also caught a lot of punctures when he first got his Auris, as the low profile tyres were also constantly getting pinch punctures from potholes. Once he got one just from mounting a kerb!

Only had 2 screw punctures in 2 years, so not bad, both times plugged it myself. Fortunately on 15" wheels and 111mm sidewall so no damage from potholes. Getting more glad I went for the design spec and not low profile of the excel 17". Would still be getting 205mm tyres when the original wears out. Cheapest profile with extra air.
