Yaris Verso -01 power steering belt squeel

Hey everyone! new member incoming from Finland ! ofq i joined cause i have a issue 😅

So i bought a yaris verso for cheap driving to work and home, went with verso model cause of extra space is always welcome.
Its a 2001 1.3VVT-I 223,000km, without air-con

The problem is a squealing belt, at first i though it would be the serpentine belt, so i changed it, but that didnt do the trick so i tested with dropping a little water on the serpentine belt, still squeeking, pourd abit on the belt to powersteering and it went silent instantly, the belt itself looks pretty good still.

So my question is i cant see anyway how your supposed to tighten the belt, not alot of space to see anyway, and i cant really find any guides on the internet.

So is it possible to tighten ? or any other recommended tricks to fix it ? its just so annoying and not fun when everyones heads turning when your driving by..

all help greatly appriciated!

You can buy a drive belt conditioner spray, but I've never tried it so don't know if it works well. On my Freelander, I had a good result cleaning with a kitchen degreaser and water on the serpentine belt, but that was a minor, intermittent squeal.

Thanks for the reply.

Ive thought about the spray, Crc makes some belt spray that adds friction, tho ive read it might start gathering dust and **** on the pulleys, so i would prefer to fix it properly.
The only problem is i need to jack up the car and work from the underside, and i dont have a garage, and its cold and snowy here atm 🥶

So i just would like to know how its supposed to be tightened before i start the attempt on fixing the issue, could it be samekind of thightening system like the serpentine belt that the alternator slides back and forth?

Also would be awesome to find a workshop manual for the Yaris Verso , kinda careful of downloading random files from dodgy sites 😅

Try removing the belt and cleaning the pulleys and belt thoroughly.  Refit and tension.  I cant remember how i did mine its been a few years, but the general rule is to twist the belt - shouldnt twist more than 90 degrees in the middle.  Alternatively, try some silicone spray - it wont attack the belt and will quieten the squeaks.
