Rav4.3 Fuel filter...

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble with my RAV4 2006 T180 Diesel.

In general, it has a hard time starting when cold. It also struggles when in low revs so taking off from cold on a slight uphill is very slow.

I'm wondering if there is an issue with fuel reaching the engine.

When I pu p the black button on the fuel filter I can get it to go hard but if I wait 30 seconds  pump it again... Should it still be hard? Should it stay hard? I'm thinking there is a leak.

 

Also, I have recently replaced the fuel filter, the issue was there before and the Battery is good.

Could be fuel pump or injectors Adam, have you checked to see if there are any fault codes stored ?

@Hybrid21 Thanks for your suggestion, no error codes although for the first time in a year of this issue the car started and then died leaving a 00093 Large Fuel leak error. This is the first time this has ever happened so not sure if it is a little bit of red herring.

Once the car is driving, it seems totally fine, its just starting and in low revs before the turbo kicks in where the problem persists.

Regarding leaking fuel injectors, can this be resolved by (the complext task of) taking them apart and leaning them, or is that just to improve efficiency?

Hi Adam, re the fuel injectors yes they would need to be removed to be inspected, tested or cleaned.

If you could remove and inspect and clean them yourself it would certainly save you a lot of cash 👍
