I got my wireless android auto dongle today. Connected my phone via it for 1 hour and quite like it.

When I turn the car on, it takes 15 seconds c to connect.

Returning my wireless auto dungle, we had a connection issue. Sometimes it directly disconnects for no reason. I will be looking at the alternatives.

Buying these stuff from Amazon is a great advantage when you want to return!

Ok, I received it. But unfortunately isn't compatible with bZ4X infotainment display. I guess because of the aspect ratio or the resolution of the display. I emailed to the support team of Carlink. Lets see if they can't fix it or I will return this too.

I received a firmware update file (link) from support team. Lets see if this will help for the Carlinkit 4 issue...

Have you logged onto the device and in advanced settings changed the resolution manually?
i had to downgrade the firmware twice before my prius connected without issues.

Yes, I did. I guess device needs firmware upgrade as bz4x is quite a new model. Currently device is not compatible with bz4x.

It took sometime however I finally connected to the car successfully via Wireless Android Auto. I will have a journey tomorrow and test it on way if it will disconnect or not. My initial impression is good. It connects quite quick! Like in 5-6 secs...

Samsung March 2023 security update caused Android Auto to stop working on all our cars

Has anyone had any problem? I just updated didn't have chance to try.

As far as I know my Samsung phone is up to date, and I was using Android Auto in the car last night. I take that back, phone is just downloading an update as we speak

There has been a few AA auto updates on my Samsung S10 recently possibly due to the recently introduced new screen configuration option being tweaked.

For me yes, external Android Auto kits didn't satisfied me. iPhone owners are quite happy. 😊

Toyota will enbale Android Auto at some point. We need to wait. But they charge for the licence.

got to the point I was so fed up with lack of Android Auto using bluetooth, that Ive now switched to using an iPhone in the car. Im lucky because my work mobile is an iPhone & they allow me to install satnav like Waze & also spotify/podcasts...

Tried the Motorola MA1 - worked first time, but then has been incredibly tempermental ever since, either not connecting, or connecting everything except phone.  Its a really poor experience for Android owners - I dont know why companies like Toyota shoot themselves in the foot with things like this.

Next car I get the first thing I will check is ability to connect my Android phone to the car wirelessly.

Tried the AAWireless 2024 today. Connected first time.  Installed the latest firmware. switched off and back on and wouldn't reconnect. Got a throbbing head as Im guessing the device was spamming the wireless channels.  Only way I can get it to reconnect is to clear the storage as well as the cache, but Im not going to do that everytime I want to connect.  So its back to using the work iPhone.  Annoying as it means I cant hear notifications of apps etc like WhatsApp when driving

I wonder if anyone has done a mod to get around the issue with not being able to close the drawer. I would drill a hole but this car is through company car scheme, so darent risk doing anything that will end up footing for a repair bill

Came across this cable on Amazon & fits my Google Pixel 6 nicely in the phone tray. Dont know how bigger phones will fare, but if you're struggling to sort your Android Auto connection, can I recommend this cable for you

After having the car for a full 24 hours, I was getting frustrated with the CarPlay/ApplePlay/Bluetooth connection!!  I’m a musician and listening to music in my car is crucial in my daily commutes. I previously owned a 2021 RAV4 and found its connection between my iPhone via bluetooth and/or usb was always smooth but this “newer” car was being more challenging in regards to connection. I had trouble in my own trying to problem solve that I went to a different dealership than the one I purchased it from. The best feedback I received from the “techiest” person there was 1. bluetooth is connected to satellite and some days are really good and some days are really bad and that it happens to all new cars (mind you it was raining on and off in Los Angeles but I wasn’t really believing their explanation) and advised that its better to have the phone be plugged in through a usb cord vs bluetooth connection. I didn’t find this resolution to be settling because I recalled bluetooth working perfectly fine without a usb chord on my old RAV4 and also, charging my phone while driving would decrease my Battery life. But with the chord connected in the presence of the employee we parted ways as everything seemed to be working fine. But then……

After shutting my vehicle off for over two hours the problem persisted and I finally decided to open the darn “quick reference guide” (should have done this from the start, stubborn me) and I went through the steps of linking my Apple subscription through my Toyota App which then also allowed Tidal (yes, I have both) to be played with ease. The other important factor that I discovered was that the moment I turned off my VPN while in my car everything worked smoothly! I tried to turn on my VPN while driving but it wouldn’t pick up a server. So I’ve come to the conclusion aside from following the steps in the vehicle’s manual, if you use one, turning off your VPN connection may alleviate phone connection issues IF you are experiencing any and because of this, you cannot use a VPN while driving. I hope this helps!

Why do you think Battery life is reduced by frequent charging?

That is incorrect as long as the charger is of reasonable quality.

bluetooth does not connect to satellite, what was that about?

Justeen's post is a little confusing ... 😉

She is referring to the Battery in her smartphone. And in this case the charger would be her bZ4X. So, maybe, continuous charging wouldn't be ideal but, personally, I wouldn't be too bothered by charging the phone while on the daily commute etc..

I'm guessing that Justeen is in the US where they have satellite radio and a different Infotainment system to the one we have in Europe. Satellite radio reception may well be 'variable' as described by the tech. However, we can probably conclude that either something has been lost in translation or the techs in US dealerships are as clued-up as some of them are over here.

The punchline was that use of a VPN was disrupting communication. It's pretty safe to say that Toyota won't support the use of VPN - if you want to use a VPN you would need support from your VPN provider. I could well imagine problems arising from the impact of a VPN in establishing a wifi connection; I'd be more surprised if it impacts a bluetooth connection but it is possible that such arises either by accident or design.
