Hi all.

Im looking at becoming an Estima owner and just after some clarification on a couple of things if someone would be so kind.

Ive test driven a 2010 2.4 estima and there's a couple of things im not sure about

Ive never driven a cvt transmission before, but compared to my Hondas "normal" auto it feels almost like its slipping when i floor it, driving normally it seems ok. Is this a cvt trait?

The other, again when i floor it, it sounds very loud, like a boy racers car, but coming from the engine. Is this normal or should i be looking at the intake?

 Many thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome.

Yes, the CVT adjusts the revs according to engine output. In turn this can make the engine noisy. An Estima CVT is likely to need rebuilding after about 120,000 km.

Estimas are great vehicles, but I would source a standard auto version - a larger engine variant.

Hi. Thanks for the info. The other worry i had was the salesman telling me it was a normal 7 speed auto and i should stay away from the cvt transmission.

I'll take his and your advice.

 Many thanks

I'd echo Paulscarbs comments...I have a "normal" torque converter autobox in my 3 litre V6 Estima.

It's silky smooth and quiet mated to the V6 engine and given no issues in the 7 years I've owned it.

The mpg difference between the larger engine and the 2.4 is negligible ..but the drive enjoyability is so much better IMO.
