Toyota Roadside Assistance

Oh man, I feel your frustration with Toyota Roadside Assistance. Sounds like they've been playing around with the pricing and perks, and not in a good way. It's never fun when the cost goes up and the benefits go down, right?

But fear not, my friend! You've got options. GreenFlag and Start Rescue are solid alternatives that other members have recommended. It's always good to explore what's out there and find the best fit for you.

Having received no reminder of any kind that my roadside assistance subscription was to expire and after a dozen attempts to pay for another year and it failing to complete the application I've gone elsewhere. Bye Toyota (£89) hello LV Brittannia (£102).

I moved to RAC car insurance a couple of years ago, this year they've offered me one year's roadside assistance for free, as an incentive to stay with them.

So bye bye Toyota/AA R.A., saved myself £89!

Being caravanners, we always used Green Flag because it gave double journey over through the Caravan Club , which allowed the holiday to go ahead and the whole outfit taken back home afterwards.

When I took out the service plan for my C-HR through the Toyota dealership, deducting the recovery part of the contract was not an option. So I have decided to keep my Green Flag account - also, although not now caravanners, our remaining with them still qualifies us for double journey cover.  As we would now rent holiday accommodation, this cover would allow car and us to be taken to our destination and, if car could not be repaired in time, for car and us to be taken home.

Do you renew automatically or go online for a quote?  Can't remember exactly what we did but always paid just half the cost of the automatic renewal.

Paid the automatic renewal - I would have thought this would be the cheapest option.

Logically yes, in practice I would get the new customer price.   Don't know if that remains true.

Odd. When I bought my first C-HR, it came with breakdown cover for a year. I had a service plan without the cover included. With my current C-HR, I had the option to have the service plan with or without cover. I opted to have the cover though.

I use Green Flag, their pricing depends on the age of your car(s)

They are part of the Direct Line group.

Did you buy the car from new?  I think that is pretty standard for most dealerships.

My service plan is only Toyota dealership arranged - the plan does not belong top either Toyota or the dealership.  In  my plan, the recovery service is amortised in the plan.

Unlike my previous 20 years with Volkswagen, where the plans, covering 4 years before renewal, were VW financed and serviced.

I believe all new or used approved Toyotas get 1 year of complimentary roadside cover.

It's definitely not standard with a service plan - If I'd been offered that I'd have taken the service plan!

Some dealers offer it with their service plans, but that seems to be very dealer-specific (Not even franchise group specific!)

@Haliotis My first C-HR was pre-owned, my current one was new.

I forgot to add that the breakdown cover for the first year on my current C-HR was complimentary. I pay for the second and third year, as part of my service plan (as chosen by myself).

Been with Green Flag for years - last time I used them was pre-2005. Put wrong fuel in tank (meet self-confessed idiot!). We were staying at a campsite, so got rescue man to take us back there - did clean out myself as using a “specialist company” would have cost me in excess of £100.

Most of us pay for rescue cover as a peace-of-mind thing, hoping never to need them.  Yes, prices have risen recently, but that’s no surprise - from government to insurers to dealer services to all automotive trade suppliers, the motorist is seen as someone with spubik cash, so let’s relieve him/her of some of it!

In thi lil ol’ country of ours, the upper crust still see Joe Public as a guy who should not be able to afford a motorcar - smelly, sweaty public transport is good enough for us, even if it is becoming almost non-existent.

I'm a little confused. My Rav is 16 month old and on a service plan. Two days ago it wouldn't start, I correctly assumed a flat Battery and phoned Toyota assist (not had a breakdown or non-starter for years). 2 hours later AA on my drive with a cry of "Oh another one!" so at least I got a guy who knew. 10 minutes later, car was running, and I did a trip to charge the Battery

Now my question is this...at no time have I received a renewal letter for the Assistance and yet my car was immediately found when I rang Assist and nothing was said about lapsed membership etc.

Does anyone know under what term and condition I was "rescued".....or am I to shortly expect a bill through the post 😅

Well a quick rummage through my emails, and it seems I have Assistance included with my service plan....so an extra 2 years..that'll do. My dealer John Roe arranged the service plan
