Hello, my new car only came with one key so I’m desperate to get a spare. It’s 2009 and a keyless ignition. Any one know where I could get one, I live in Derby. Thanks :)

Toyota dealer should be able to do it I would think, although will be ballpark mid-£200 for it I suspect...!

If you bought it from an import specialist rather than a normal car dealer, they might be able to do it as well...?

Sadly the Japanese dealer in Birmingham didn’t! The search continues 🤣

Argh, that's annoying. The thing is Toyota dealers have the tools to do it and the ability to order the parts but a lot of them shy away from it as they don't like complications and because officially they don't support import vehicles, and treat them as if they are e.g. a Ford or something.

The better dealers will at least entertain the idea, although as they will likely have to order the key from japan it may take longer (My Mk1 Yaris was a diesel one and had a lot of jappy parts, even the wing mirror pod  and glass had to be shipped in from japan after a van took it out, as it's different to the french-made ones!)

main dealers will not touch an import, is there a sticker on the back of the fob or any markings on it - Petrol or hybrid ?

can you pm me your vin/frame number to confirm the correct fob

Local locksmiths often do this or will pass you on to a car lock specialist.

I've just had this done myself. Was fairly painless actually, so I'll share my experience.

Get yourself a key but to save yourself the pain of getting a duff key, open up your existing one and look for the code on the board. Mine was 271451-0500.

Then look for a seller for your key type. I got one off of eBay from this seller, who seems to specialise in these sort of things.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/nejapautoparts

Then when you have your new key, contact your local locksmith and ask if they can programme new remote key fobs for Toyota. The device they use plugs into your bcd port and does it in 10 seconds, but they are a few thousand pounds these things. That said many locksmiths have them these days, I'm in a sleepy seaside town and they had one.

One thing to note, they had to look in the *ASIA* section for the Estima method to programme using their gadget. So if your local locksmith can't find Estima, ask them to look in the Asia section.

Tell them you have a new spare key, tell them you have a working existing key, and agree a price. For a rough idea I paid £100 for the programming and physical key cut on the pull out key piece.

That's it. Done. I've been using my spare since then to make sure its all good and no problem whatsoever.

Hope that helps others.
