Fuel consumption - it doesn't add up.......

I wish they could align their mileage projections with all the information they show.

Came home tonight from a town on the Cromarty Firth - Invergordon.

Lights on, dry, no A/C, seat heater on, no passengers. Coastal road with the odd hill - not severe.

Elapsed mileage - 20.6 miles.

Total time - 38 minutes. Did not exceed 60 mph and I am a gentle driver. Average speed 32 mph (through one town and two villages with 20mph limits).

EV Driving ratio - 39% - was showing 1 mile EV when I set out.

HV miles dropped from 497 to 462 - 35 miles.

For a journey of 20.6 miles of which 39% was in EV mode. So 12.56 miles in non EV accounted for a drop of 35 miles range. MyT app not showing the trip - quelle surprise.

Go figure. You do the math. Or whatever your favourite saying is. I can't make sense of it...........

I don’t even try to make sense of it. I just do it the oldfashioned way full tank to full tank to find the mpg, what happens in between has no interest for me 🤭.

You may be expecting too much of it.

What is EV Driving ratio on yours?

I seem to recall it's not the percentage of journey distance you've driven on EV-only power, but the percentage of journey time the engine hasn't been running...

EV Time and EV Distance.

PHEV

6 Available, Duration, Distance, Average Speed, EV Time, EV Distance, Consumption (Total distance including EV distance/Fuel

William's point again is no recorded trip

The way I interpret it is the two ranges on the PHEV are in EV mode only or Hybrid mode. The EV proportion is taken account of in the HEV range like a normal HEV.

So I see your calculation that you had 1 mile of EV mode left, then the car changed to HEV. So 19.6 miles in HEV. You lost 35 miles of range so it's still quite a way off at 15.4 miles. I find at the higher range remaining, this does always seem to drop quicker than expected.

At the end of the day, the range is calculated on the recent average consumption (not sure what period) but as an example where this wouldn't be accurate is if you live at the bottom of a hill and say the last 20 mins are downhill the average consumption would be good, but every journey from home is 20 mins uphill and consumption is much less mpg.

And whatever is the normal fuel consumption on these 🔌 rav4 now will be higher due to the cold weather. It’s too complicated to do my maths 😂, I do as Bernard says, tank full, drive some miles and then tank full again, easy and accurate.  👍

As I posted elsewhere, Toyota are addressing the missing trip analytics.  It is not a now its there process.  They say it is a process they are working through.  Some will have up to date analytics already, others should get it in turn.

On EV Time/Distance, I was in my car at a car park waiting for my wife.  Very high EV time, usual EV distance, mpg down to 40 through the ready mode firing up the ICE.  All 3 journeys now recorded and all 11 so far this week.

Just looked at my last years stats, this one got me thinking?

(All other screen have data for all the months.)

We know that the MyT app is 'unreliable' and the data it provides often questionable.

The HV range 'quessometer' provides an estimate as to how far you might go on the fuel you have in the tank. The difference between two guesses is pretty meaningless ...

It must be a bit of a challenge to get meaningful fuel economy data for a PHEV - because PHEVies keep on travelling decent distances on electricity alone. Of course you could stop charging the traction Battery and run solely on petrol for a few tankfuls but that would be pretty silly really ... 😉

And attempting to extrapolate anything from a short trip is pretty pointless. If I travel a short distance - the two or three miles into town and back - I will get trip economies or 20 - 30 mpg. Once I get into a longer journey along A roads I can get the trip economy over 60 mpg. And on motorways (at motorway speeds) it drops again into the 45 - 50 mpg range. What I get is very dependent upon the journey I am doing.

A PHEV in HEV mode won't be very different ...

Same journey this evening:

EV driving ratio - 32% - 0 EV miles available (last night 39% and ev miles 1)

Total time 37 minutes (last night 38 minutes)

HV miles dropped from 462 to 440 - 22 miles (last night 35 miles)

Lends credence to Nigel's theory about bigger drops the higher the mileage available.

Last night's trip has appeared (but not tonight's)

Data as follows:

Duration 39 min

Distance 20.6 MI

Average speed 32mph

EV time 42%

EV distance 24%

Consumption 57.5 mpg

I think your's is having a melt down Ernie.

My average EV time for the past year is 86%.
