Hi Everyone,

this is my first time buying a car. i got lucky with a 53k miles 2004 toyota yaris that is a semi auto. cant complain. love it loads. wish it had a bluetooth system, charging ports and a reverse system ? i have seen some 10 inch mirror dash cams on Amazon but not sure which one to buy and will work.  anyone has these upgrades that can put me in the right direction ?

I would love to be able to see the back of my car when reversing. be able to play music, charge my phone. being able to upgrade the Speakers and adding gadgets would be a luxury. I would really appreciate any support on this request 🙂

Halfords can give you advice with their mostly Nextbase camera systems, can be a little spendy, but the customer service is now reputedly good. Costco have RoadAngel systems, but probably not the helpful advice and paid fitting service of Halfords. Specialist car audio fitters such as Autosounds or whoever you have locally can also help identify and fit what you need.

For the bluetooth, I use a plug in FM transmitter type which has two usb ports and a memory card slot. Occasionally available at Aldi/Lidl and available on eBay and Aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001189956657.html

That type of thing, if you have patience to wait for it coming from China, or eBay for UK stock but higher prices. I had one similar from Halfords, but never liked it as much. More expensive and less features, but immediate availability.

I had a Kenwood DMX125DAB in the LandRover, but was very disappointed with the thing, so I currently just stick with the cheap adapters. Those type of systems can be good, with tighter integration than the little adapter, though.

Get a delicated bluetooth device which fix onto the sun visor. https://www.halfords.com/technology/bluetooth-car-kits/?prefn1=brandname&prefv1=Jabra|SuperTooth&prefn2=type&prefv2=Visor&srule=price_increase_rule

Had a supertooth one and can recommend, it's very good. Though it's not cheap at 40, paid 30 for it new quite a few years ago, gone up with inflation.

For the power ports, get a 12v one from Amazon or eBay, they only cost a few £. Can't help with reverse camera as I don't know about the subject.

i replaced the head unit in mine a while back - i think i posted some pics in my build thread.  Just a standard single DIN which now has bluetooth handsfree and a charging port (or usb input). It needed a separate harness to adapt the standard connectors to the back of the head unit - i think it was about £7 on eBay.

I didn't feel the need for a reversing camera as the visibility is quite good out the back, but i cant imagine it would be too difficult to install.  You can get one of those integrated cameras with the rear view mirror and run the cable to the Battery and camera at the back.  I think the challenge would be to find the best place to mount the camera.

Do drop me a line if you want any input or any photos
