Toyota Aygo 1.4 HDI

My Toyota Aygo 1.4HDI 2006 will not start, the problem started when I had been parked for a short while and the car would not restart.  I had to get it picked up and brought home.  I thought the fuel filter was blocked and so changed it but still it will not start, I have removed the air box and noticed it was pulling air into the fuel line when I pumped the priming bulb.  I have fitted a new set of fuel lines and cleared all the air out but it will not start.  I have tried starting it with Easy Start, it will fire up for a few seconds but then cuts out.  I think the glow plugs may be shot but it should start with the spray.  The car has done over 200,000 miles so I guess it is on it`s way out but it was running fine before all this started.  I wonder if anyone on here has any knowledge or has had a similar problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it fires on easy start, its fuel relate

if it has a plastic fuel filter these have a habit of cracking, especially if cold and the water hasn't been drained off

any lights on the dash ? Have you scanned it for codes ?

Silly question, is there fuel in the tank ? Has someone nicked the fuel

Check the tank sender, the suction/return lines may have split inside the tank or is getting clogged

pics for reference

Thanks for your reply, the cambelt is overdue, last done at 110,000 but they want £350 - £500 at garages and as the car has 220,000 miles on I have been holding back until I see if it will run again.  It was my son`s car and now I have it, it has been fine until this, it could do with an engine swap but I cannot find a local garage that will do it.   If it does`nt fire up next week it will have to go for spares/repair.

Yeah don't spend too much time or money on it - You can spend that money getting a petrol one which is better in almost every way!!

The diesel Aygos are super rare as they were only made for a short time and hardly anyone bought one, and normally this rarity would allow it to get a higher price, but because it uses an awful PSA diesel engine instead of the far better Toyota D4D it somehow made the car worse than the petrol version!

Being french it's most likely some electrical thing has broken, maybe wires to the injectors or an earth strap or somesuch.

My son bought it 4 years ago, it has been great on diesel and ran fine until a while ago.  He thought it had a Toyota engine but when we looked into it we found it was a PSA engine.  My garage man told me that it is really a Citroen, the only Toyota thing about it is the Badge.  They should never have put a diesel in them, there is just no room to get at anything without taking the air box and scuttle panel off.  Petrol ones are far better and just as economical I have read.

The only diesel Aygo that I had the pleasure of working on😆 had perished plastic joins in the leak off pipes, but you would be able to see and smell the diesel leak if this was the case.
