Personally if you have the budget for the Cougar and are also looking at the Celica, then why not look at a 1995+ ST285 Celica GT4? Should pick up a decent one for around the same price (or less) than the Cougar and it will outlast and perform the Cougar

duratech is a good engine but makes sure the belt tensioners are in tip-top condition, specially if its over 60k, as if they fail they tend to destroy every valve, piston and anything else that gets in the way in the engine!

makes a right mess!

plus remember the cougar is just a 'mondeo coupe'

personally id go for the celica!!

Why are you asking whether you should buy a Ford or a Toyota on a Toyota forum?

What sort of answer did you think you'd get....

BUY THE FORD! BUY THE FORD!

Yeah right.

Buy the ST285 GT4 :ffs:

I'd say at least get a GT if not the GT4. Forget the Cougar. The 2.0 GT will outrun a 2.5 Duratec anyway

I would NOT get the Couger.

They hardly sold any, as a result no one services them, and parts are already hard to get (ford do that, I took my '97 probeto a ford dealership for a diagnostic and fix and they couldn;t do it as "its an old model, we don;t do these any more, you'll ave to finda specialist"

They are pooly built, the V6 makes it very front heavy, fwd (eeeeeeeewwwww).

Granted they are actually a good looking car, but if you insist on a couger you are probably better off with the 2.0 series 3 zetec, and turbo it.

cheers mate howvera ford with the cougar cant be worst than coxon with the sera.

as the cougar is a v6 that means twin turbo conversion

just spoken to the boys who will do alot of work on whicheva car i get and they are saying the same as everyoune here the 2.0 toyota lump is poo hot compared to the duratec and fensport are able to get 220bhp out of them all day long which will be nice.

also the celica is red and my Konig buckets are red and black and its half the price of the celica

so the answer is

CELICA

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
