BZ4X Navigation and Voice recognition OTA updates

First update that I have had. OTA update went smoothly and took about 10 minutes

And yes, it did seem to solve the problem with lack of voice commands with Toyota Navigation.

Did you get a prompt of some form? Just turn the car on and off you go with the update?

Just started the car this morning and it came up with the prompt to update. Also listed in the 'Update' section of the multimedia screen.

Had the same this afternoon, not managed to find detailed release notes yet.

Pasted the text from the comment below to make it a bit easier to read.

I have had confirmation directly from Toyota Technical that the update, as mentioned in the reply to you, is planned for MAY and will apply to our existing cars. It will release some of the buffer and also as stated in the reply, bring the predictions more in line with real miles. They also confirmed a Battery ‘% remaining’ in the display.
My car is a Vision FWD, 20” wheels. I recently needed to do an exact 180 miles round trip. So it was an excellent opportunity for a range test. 8C, dry (at first), 70% m’way. Plan A was to do a 2+ hour top up at my destination but the charger (7kW) didn’t work. (it was in very remote Worcestershire).
I decided to try to get home without top up, but having crawled on the M42 for 40 minutes in the rain, I had to turn off the Climate to save energy. (Apparently EV’s are very INefficient at low speeds partly because there is very little opportunity for regen). The last 40 miles were uncomfortably cold and not without some anxiety. I got home with 6 miles to spare. (when you’ve already lost 40 minutes, your mind is telling you to take the risk, rather than a stop to charge, especially as I knew that at ZERO miles I still had the buffer). So the experience, in a positive light, achieved 180 miles but it was with a significant amount of time without any heat on. It was a cold and quite difficult journey home. But it has given me confidence that I can use the predictions BUT (until the update) if you want to be comfortable at this time of year you need to deduct about 10-15% from the ‘A/C on’ prediction to get a realistic range. I am also confident now that when we get the update and temperatures get in the twenty C’s, we’ll hopefully get 220+ and about 160ish in winter. By the way Toyota also told me the optimal Battery temperature is 22 – 24C.
So we can all look forward to the update.
And on a footnote, you have probably found like me that charge rates at 5C get no better than 25 Kwh on a fast charger. I would be interested to know if you achieve better. Toyota says this is normal, to protect the Battery. I am personally very happy with my car and it will get better, I have faith in Toyota.
I will be doing that 180 trip over the summer. I am really looking forward to achieving it with no top up and no anxiety.

To be able receive update make sure that your DCM has signal! You will find an icon with bars next to clock at the main infotainment screen.

DCM = Data Communication Module

Crikey ...  from the Met Office ( and this was the warmest year for a very long time indeed !

The provisional UK mean temperature for 2022 was 10.0 °C, which is 0.9 °C above average, reaching 10 °C for the first time and exceeding the UK’s previous warmest year (2014, 9.9 °C).....

No, it's not necessary. The update continues in the background. You can even turn off the bZ4X after it starts. It's pretty convenient and easy!

OK, went manually into Settings > Software Update, an it said update available.#

It si currenty doing two updates:  Navigation & Voice Recognition

Taken over 15 minutes so far, and still not finished the first update Voice Recognition

Just hope this is not lilke Microsoft Windows Updates, which frequently render a computer unusable afterwards....

i got the latest update.

for the next one do you agree with the following:

I have bluetooth setup with my android phone and it connects automatically when I get into the car - thats great!

if i then connect to android auto for whatever reason then the next time I get into the car it will not connect to my phone with bluetooth unless I go into the setup menu!!!!  annoying.  I don't want to have to connect a lead into my phone and use android auto ever time.

next is this profile connection thing!!  I set up my profile with MyT app in the car and it annoyed me so much by not connecting all the time that I have it use guest each time.  trouble is when I switch the car on  you have to hit all these continue buttons and then it defaults to some profile setup page!!!  why can't it just default to the same page when I turned the car off like the radio or map!!

The 'big' update in May I don't think will cause a huge difference in range especially with the HVAC off range.  The car will not suddenly increase efficiency; they might reduce the safety range a little, but that is not much. I think the slow charging will continue ( in cold weather) as they will still want to protect the Battery warranty.  The %battery gauge is a good idea and mirrors what ICE cars have.  The range estimate like on ICE cars was always dubious.

It would be also great if we could see instant efficiency number as well as the long term average.  We can see the instant efficiency on the bar but its hard to see an actual number.

I hope the biggest improvement will be when the HVAC is turned on.  It seems to be a fixed amount that is subtracted off the range depending on outside temp.  The lowest I got was -40km when it was about 12oC.  When it was <5oC I was getting -80 or -90 km ( with eco chosen that gave back 20km ).  That seems like a huge amount of energy even with a heat pump.  Right now I am averaging 19KWh/100km so -80km equates to 15.2kWh --- really?!!  i.e. I would have to run a 2kW electric bar heater for >7hrs to use that amount  . For house heating the lowest power air-to-water heat pumps are 6kW

I think Toyota are taking the worst case estimate here with the heating set to highest with fan on full.  Maybe they can adjust the range loss continuously by the current HVAC settings selected in the new update.

Yes, you will need to setup manually it doesn't switch automatically 🙄. Thats why I want to buy a device to use android auto wireless or swap the phone to iPhone

Setting up an account is ok but having secondary driver is headache in the UK models. Pop-up notification saying that couldn't synchronised is a bug at the infotainment system. My car is at dealer now looking for that problem. They said they will need my account (MyT app) and phone to sort it out. I will meet them on Monday. If they can solve it I will inform you.

It is also safety issue. Because that notification is very insist.  Comes up every 5-10 minutes and covers all map when I use it.
