It might be helpful to other bZ4X owners to get details on the communications module update - it doesn't appear to be on the list of updates reported by others as far as I can see ...

My car got updated this morning. It was with the dealership for 3 hours.

The bloke there told me that the communication module update was in relation to that thingy in the roof panel that you can press after an accident to get help.

I was pleasantly surprised with the estimated mileage (with fan tuned on) after the update. When I dropped it off, the car was reporting 220 miles estimated charge. This was not a full charge, as I'd charged it fully at home a couple of days ago. After the software update, it reported 256 miles estimated range and showed that it was 93% charged. It's a warm sunny day.

I think we knew what the DCM / communications module is - I was more curious about the update ...

Over in RAV-land, particularly in connection with the plug-in hybrids that use the DCM in a similar way to the bZ4X to control charging and other connected services, there were instances of the DCM being activated (correctly) when the car is otherwise 'off' and not being deactivated as it should. The result being a flattened 12v auxiliary Battery ...

But so far I haven't noted any bZ4X owner reporting a DCM update to resolve a 12v auxiliary Battery issue. So while there could be a common issue, I certainly don't want to set hares running be appearing to claim that there is ... 😉

Surely they just mean the 12v Battery and not the main hv traction Battery pack? 🤔

I wish it was 12V Battery 😂 but the main Battery will be replaced. I guess this is the first bz4x Battery replacement in the world.

Toyota engineers will come to dealer and do it together.

Yes, quite unfortunate 😕. However, on a brighter note, my dealer reassures me that I'll be getting a shiny new Battery after a year of using the car😉. So, there's a silver lining to look forward to!

Took my Premier into local dealer today for software updates and tyre rotation.

In the end they didn’t do the tyre rotation as their approach was to just move the wheels around, which they highlighted would leave the TPM sensors reporting against the wrong position. To do it “properly” i.e. move the tyres not the wheels was going to take longer and cost more. I fed back that perhaps they need to be aware of tyre rotation on the BZ4X a bit more.

My bigger concern is 3926D was one of the updates installed, I believe this is what we have been referring to as the May update. So I was expecting to see % Battery left on my dash, as you can see below it’s not showing. Went back into dealer to query and was told, in no uncertain terms, that the software had been installed correctly and as they aren’t told by Toyota what changes the software causes they can’t say if the Battery % should show.

Am I missing something, is this the right update to show Battery %? Is there something I need to turn on or configure on the dash?

I believe that is the right update, and no there's nothing for us to configure, something not right there. Can you confirm if the gom is a lot more accurate now with a lot smaller difference with a/c ventilation on and off?

With and without A/C turned on, difference of 17 miles.

Last week my garage loaded these recall software updates:

XGG95, 3926D, YGG05

One of these resulted in some range improvement and a % indication.

Google will tell you which.

Please see the photo below showing "238m 100%".

As I have never achieved 200 and in winter was down at 160ish, I wait to see what i actually achieve.

Mine is an AWD with, supposedly a 284m range.

I've had my R4P serviced twice and they just rotate the wheels. The TPMS indicates correctly after the rotation has been completed.

Subaru does rotation in services for Solterra and all AWD cars. I guess Toyota must be doing rotation too.

My car was also updated but fails to show the SOC%. My dealership confirmed with Toyota engineers that the SOC% should be visible and they have been troubleshooting the problem with other bz4x. Going back on Wednesday for them to have a fiddle. Will report back.

Just following up on this, car went back to dealership today and received another patch which applied the SOC feature. All good!

New Software, Old, Poor Range

The Toyota Press Release last year claimed the AWD Range to be "up to 285 miles".

I'd have been happy if it normally achieved 10-20% less than this.

I have been awaiting warm weather and the new software and was encouraged that the predicted range on my first full charged showed 242 miles.

Sadly, yesterday, I nearly ran out of electricity having achieved only 186.9 miles. (See photograph below).  With supposedly 5 miles left in the tank, that would give a range of just 191.9 miles.

Better that the 145 miles, yes, 145 miles achieved in January when the temperature was 2C. (See photograph below).

Of particular interest are the half way readings, i.e., when the Battery was at 50% (See photograph below).  91.4 miles achieved on 50% of Battery and 121 miles predicted for the remaining 50% - a very poor forecast.  During the second half of my journey, I tried to find out at what speed the range prediction would be accurate – this appeared to be between 40mph and 50mph! Note the 3.2 miles per kWh that I regularly achieve.

Yesterday, these readings were supposedly under reasonably ideal condition; 17C - 20C, hardly any aircon, a light-footed driver who achieves a 9/10 score calculated by Toyota's own app!  Most of the mileage was done between 50mph and 70 mph, mostly on dual carriageway under cruise control.

I'd welcome your thoughts, but I have decided to draw these readings to the attention to the Advertising Standards Authority and my solicitor.

I haven't received any updates yet, but I'm currently enjoying the company of my RAV4 hybrid 😊. Did I miss my bZ4X? Of course!

The only news I've received is that the necessary parts have been ordered from Toyota Japan so that the Battery replacement can be carried out, along with some additional special lifts.
