Rubber bungs?

Hi all,

Ok, during a tidy up in the car, I found a cellophane packets containing two oblong/oval rubber bungs with a Toyota Part No. 90950-01259 on them, jammed under the passenger seat side rail!

As you can see, these seem to have been missed from my pre-delivery inspection back in 2020! Does anyone know exactly where they should go on my Mk4 Yaris? (photos would help?) Is it worth installing them now this late in the day anyway? The only thing I have managed to ascertain is that they are supposed to seal up the under chassis tie-down holes used when the car is being transported?

Oops, these are ultra important and without them the chassis will start to form rust exactly on that spot.

Make sure they’re missing before you dig in Colin.  Those things are commonly lay around the workshop and the mechanical may have just used some others.

That was excellent advice Don!! I just got down and dirty under the car and was surprised to find two identical bungs correctly installed in their respective places! So I guess what happened was (and it took me two and a half years to stumble over them!) that the mechanic couldn't find them and so got another couple from the stores instead... Panic over 🙂

Where I found them on the Mk4 was one on the outer subframe (holding the suspension arm) in front of the rear nearside wheel and the other in a similar subframe placement just behind the front offside wheel.

What about the opposite corners

There aren't any. Just two, diagonally opposed.

Turns out that I was wrong about the diagonal! (I was doing it by feel last time) This time I used my phone's front facing camera and I was falsely feeling another indent behind the offside front wheel. The proper bung is directly opposite the nearside rear wheel one in front of the offside rear wheel...

So, in a way you were right Bob. One on each side which makes more sense...

Ah, i see they use them as tie down points for transportation, hence why they are fitted at PDI - they may be used to move them during production

Indeed, that sounds highly likely. One thing I did notice when I eased the offside one partially out was that they were much more substantial than the ones in the packet (same size though) and they were packed with grease around the channel that touches the metal.

Try as I might, I could not find two at the front.

I think you may be right (again!) as I noticed this difference when I took the photos. My 90950-01259 ones (that are not installed) seem much less substantial in their moulding...
