Just interested in seeing the top 5 Toyota vehicle's you would have in your dream garage.

I'll start with mine, although it's been difficult 😁

1. Yaris GR

2. Celica gt4

3. Corolla t sport compressor

4. Yaris 1.8 sr

5. Land Cruiser 80

The celica is the only one which I would struggle with between the generation 5 and 6

I'd never heard of the Mega Cruiser! Looks like it would run over a hummer! Definitely the 70 series was almost on my list. No land cruiser GR on your list! Shame the corolla GR won't be on our shores  unless imported

Indeed, and that counts against it in my books. I like to drive cars.

Good choices.

Is that the Yaris GR grade or the GR Yaris? (I assume the latter)

Would love to try a an ST185/205 - also need to move to the countryside!

Is the 2ZZ compressor more subtle in its VVTiL switchover? In my view, the NA version is flawed in that regard.

Yep, the GR yaris GT-FOUR or whatever it's called, absolutely love it, a pure Toyota made machine, unlike the supra and 86, which I would still love to own.

I grew up watching the celicas rallying and as for the compressor, I'm not sure because I've never owned one. Just it's rarity and that not many people have heard of them!

Wouldn't say no to any of these, although I'm not sure I'd do many miles in the land cruiser (V8)

My era was 80's/90's, although at the time toyota bodywork didn't last to well.

I've only had one diesel toyota! Avensis t180, loved the drive and build quality but you guessed it, the head gasket went.

My (1984?) Tercel 4x4 was a rot box, that also became a farm hack. We ended up getting drunk after buying a petrol cutting saw at auction and taking the roof off of it.

My 1981 RA40 was also rusty as hell in 2004 when I got it.

Thinking back to the mid eighties through to mid nineties, we did, in 1985, buy a Jap import (JDM to you youngsters) Mk1 Celica GTV! I think it was on an N plate, so 1974. It had been hand painted in hammerite, £50. On the drive back we could see the floor pan opening behind the front seats on every bump. It was a donor. Lovely interior, great engine.

Tricky.... GR Yaris and Celica GT4 for sure, after that not sure...!

If they don't have to be real or one-offs, then the Aygo Crazy and Yaris Hybrid R would be the next 2.

If re-badges are allowed, then the 'Toyota' Copen GR would be the 5th one to round it out I think :naughty:

The compressor is a 2ZZ (VVTL-i) with an Ogura TX12 supercharger strapped to it, The 2zz is a good engine the detuned ones are a bit lacking - the modern equivalent is the 2ZR what's also used N/A and charged in the Lotus

Thanks Bob! I didn't know the make and model of the SC. My question was more if the nature of the supercharged version smoothes the switchover to high lift compared to the NA version?

I found the naturally aspirated Corolla T-sport a bit frustrating as it is on high lift only between 6,200 up to 8,200 and the switchover is not subtle, resulting in a sudden jolt of power. When you combine the narrow power band with the gearing, it meant you would always drop out of high lift when changing up. When driving fast (on track, of course) having that power bump is less than desirable, especially without LSD.

Still, kudos and lot of love to Toyota for producing such an engine. <hats off>

That was one of the biggest differences between the Honda VTEC and the Toyota VVTL-i - The Toyota's 'lift' was very noticeable, even harsh. Probably why they kept snapping their lift bolts so often   Some people liked that sensation, while others preferred the more progressive Honda system.

I remember a lot of CTS owners mentioning the power band too; It seemed like you almost had to redline it before changing gear to avoid dropping out of lift, but those high revs sounded amazing, esp. with a nice exhaust

From what I remember of the Compressor, it didn't have 'lift' and had a smoother torque curve thanks to the supercharger, but I've not first-hand experience of one so don't know for sure.
