2014 Auris hybrid wipers working one minute, then not

WIndscreen wipers keep stalling halfway through the sweep.

Occasionally you turn the wipers on and nothing happens unless you put it on fast first, then back to slow or intermittent and they work for a bit but no guarantee.

Relay, stalk  or motor problem ?

It's pretty high mileage  (272,000 miles) so I'm guessing it could be either ?

Could be either, why not try to source one from a breaker if possible and try it.

And maybe the motor might just need brushes.🤔

Going for the cheapest option first

Bought a wiper relay on ebay for a tenner 😄

It is most likely the motor at fault. You either have to open it and clean inside, replace the brushes or perhaps buy another used from eBay from lower mileage car and replace. Here is explained https://priuschat.com/threads/2010-prius-intermittent-front-wiper-problem-works-when-pushed.202743/

I had a similar problem on my 2014 Lexus GS. The wipers would stop mid cycle & not park correctly. Apparently a common fault due to a faulty relay.  I think you're wise replacing the relay as a first move as it's cheap & easy to do. But at 272k could well be the motor or linkages as TonyHSD suggests. Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all the help 🙂

Belt and braces approach 👏, hope you will test that  it works before install, I would be extremely surprised if it didn’t, but it’s another “belt and braces” approach 🤪.

I always start with relays and fuses first. We can swap relays also if they are the same.  horn, AC, etc. are often have the same relays type.

Last night one of my colleagues has a mondeo and he asked me if I know about cars as his one the wipers started to work non stop even with ignition off and key out of the car, he had to pull the fuse off to stop them. Quick look online suggests the wiper switch and obviously a common fault with fords. Let see how the op is doing with replacement motor. 👍

Motor and mechanism turned up this morning. £35 from eBay and worked straight out of the box, very happy now.

Thanks for all the advice, I've now got a spare relay as well
