Hello!

With no CD player how can I listen to CD's in our new in 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross?

Many thanks for any suggestions!!!

Number of ways I would think, all needing you to transfer the CD music to a suitable device ie smartphone, usb stick, sd card, all depends what connections you have free in the car.

From a computer with a cd/dvd player you can use a piece of software that will help you transfer a whole cd or select tracks onto the card or phone.

Or possibly buy a USB CD player. But transferring to more modern media is probably cheaper and eliminates the need to rely on a likely unreliable electric motor and head assembly.

You can indeed buy something like this. Amazon have a selection, starting from around £50 - they might/might not work with your car though. You would also have the hassle of finding somewhere to put it so it wouldn't slide about, but still be accessible.

I agree with Joe & Andrue - I think you would be better off putting the effort into ripping your CDs and then playing the music from your phone or a flash drive.

An external CD/DVD drive for your computer would be cheaper (assuming that you don't already have one) and the ripping process (transferring the music to digital files) is easy and pretty automatic once you have the software (which should be free) set up. Once you have your entire music collection available to play, without having to swap a single disc, I think that you'll be happy with the change.

You'll find the instructions on how to play music from various sources in the multimedia manual - available here https://www.toyota.co.uk/customer/manuals#/

Sadly it's not that simple, a USB CD drive isn't enough, it needs an interface to convert and index the CD into a format the radio can detect, the only one that i know that's reliable is the Connects2 ADV-USBCD what is around £100

https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/ADV-USBCD

be aware there are cheaper versions of this but are poor quality

iTunes is one of the simplest ways to convert CD's (ripping)

It works and It's simple to use - so simple a Mac owner can use it 😜

192kbs is CD quality and TBH that's all an OEM radio can handle, back in the day Winamp with the Fraunhofer plug in was the OG

Yeah, iTunes if you have a Mac or Windows Media Player if you have Windows are the simplest ways to rip a CD.

EAC is the one to use if you want a high quality rip but you need a supported CD drive for best results and it's scarier to use for the non-techie!

Problem with getting a usb cd drive for the car is not only finding a place to put it whilst playing and not playing, but you got to find somewhere to store your cd’s.  Cd storage was a nightmare years ago, and maybe worse now due to available storage areas being designed differently for other uses.

I have all my music on a stick.

I wasn't very impressed with the USB music feature of my 2019 Infotainment unit. As I remember the shuffling was poor. These days I use Rocket Player to stream from my phone over bluetooth. It has the advantage of meaning I can pick up from where I left off when walking or driving because I also use it for my earbuds.

I bought a pair of earbuds for about £24 and the sound is absolutely amazing. Never liked headphones but a pair of earbuds that fit the person are really comfy.

Yeah. Traditional padded earphones make my ears sweat and look a bit silly when you're walking around outside. Foam earphones are okay but rarely sit against my ears properly so lots of extraneous noise gets in and bass is weakened.

You definitely will need shoes and a coat In the deserts of Sudan and the gardens of Japan. You'll also need them In the wilds of Borneo and the vineyards of Bordeaux 😁

I use a usb that only sticks out from the slot by about 4mm. I bought this ‘cos Toyota decided to put the usb slot in the most vulnerable place in the car.

I've got one of those usb sticks with my mp3's on that I used in my previous car. But as I like to use Android Auto for my Nav and only have one data capable USB port on the Corolla that option's been removed. Real pain. Currently experimenting with playing my mp3's through Android Auto but doesn't seem to be as nice to use as the in car audio system accessing the data direct.

NO!

Don't rip your files to 192kbps.

Chose FLAC or if using .mp3 file format at least 320kbps
