T27 Avensis - clonk from bottom of steering column

Can someone please link me to the post/s regarding a clonk from the bottom of the steering column when turning the steering wheel of a T27 Avensis. I've tried the 'Search' box using the words clonk, thump, knock but I'm not getting any relevant replies. I know there is a relevant post as it mentioned something about a syringe grease kit. Thanks.

I had that annoying clunking sound also and I had to replace steering intermediate shaft (part 45260 at middle). Very easy 5 minutes task to do even at parking lot. Just had to be sure that steering wheel doesn't spin when shaft was removed so steering wheel alignment stays right. I tried to grease old shaft before replacing it but that kept noise only couple weeks away.

Looks a big enough job 5min that's good going would it not be better taking off the power from the airbag and running down electric before taking off airbag and all the other things .looks a big job.you wouldbt think buying a Toyota that stupid **** like this and other things would start falling apart .maybe the t27 not as well built as the older ones . wardrobe on wheels ones

Not so sure what You meant with this but all You need to do is remove one plastic cover over pedals (one plastic nut holds it) and there is two bolts wich holds that shaft. No need to remove any airbags, electric, steering wheel etc.

Would the replacement part have to be well greased when fitting to steering column? If so, would a thicker grease be more beneficial I wonder........

New part was greased pretty well already.

Have you grease the telescopic splines too? I think in some cases this is where the clunky noises come from. I also have these but never bother to fix it. Did try the both shafts and the bolts but seems rock solid to me.

I greased those splines too with white lithium grease and it helped earlier mentioned couple weeks only. Toyota service guy recommend that grease and also said that sometimes greasing splines help and sometimes it is just short term first aid.

is there a way to put in springs hacks in there to hold tension on that part i wonder .one thing i hate so much is rattles and squeaks 😞 i rather put in a good screw or bolt to put into stop all those annoying rattles etc. thats the thing i found out with the t27 the dash is cheaply put together you nearly think ist a dam peugeot
