With it in Park and the ready mode, press and hold the park brake switch in the off position.  Once you’ve done that, you’ll have to do the opposite to reinstate it and keep in mind, you have to do it every time you want the park brake on until it’s reinstated.

The brakes sticking on in my garage was one of my fears so I disable the automatic handbrake before I drive in.

When I worked as a production engineer for Don International in Manchester, one of my projects was screen printing strips of abrasive (bit like the side of a matchbox) on to disc pads for cars which were shipped abroad.

On delivery the idea was that a couple of dabs of the brakes would clean off the discs.

Thanks yet again for your wisdom. I've  just tried it, disengaged system warning comes up on dash. Switch off and car is left in park, with handbrake off!

I just wanted to know how to do it if I start having trouble with sticking discs? Which I have had on my previous Yaris, fitted with a normal handbrake.

Thanks again, very useful!

At Don, people used to walk into the canteen with white dust in their hair and I doubt it was dandruff. Googling Don some time ago, there were requests from solicitors asking for information regarding asbestosis claims. I was glad to leave.

In my mechanicing days, the old fella used to blow out brake drums with an airline and the air would turn black with brake dust and I used to reline literally thousands of brake shoes without a mask.  I then went on to work for a friction manufacturer and even after the transition to asbestos free there was still dust.  Most dust is dangerous and one thing more carcinogenic than asbestos is talcum powder.  We used to cover our kids in it.  Let me order another Lexus - quick!!’

I also used to reline brake shoes and clean out brake drums with an airline as a vehicle mechanic in the army, 1975-1978. Who knew??

The respiratory consultant that I have been seeing for a few different lung conditions, including an asbestos related nodule on one of my lungs informs me that the information on the dangers of being exposed to asbestos was well known by then,in fact since the 1930sand 40s.

It was certainly no secret, except for the people actually working with it.

Mine most likely acquired while working in construction in the late 60s early 70s.

The neglect of workers health risks as serious as this is breathtaking (pun intended).

You'll be (un)happy to learn, that where profits are concerned nothing has changed.
