J2534 Mini VCI Cable - Unable to connect to VIM?

I purchased a J2534 Mini VCI Cable Compatible with Toyota Techstream from eBay it was a cheap one cost around £23. However, it will not work want connection error - Unable to connect to VIM.

I also tried another laptop again the same error. So not sure if the problem is the Mini VCI Cable having a defect?

Anyone have any ideas? or is there a better version that is less troublesome?

Hi Chris,

What version of windows are you running, it may be a driver issue so check both compatability with your version of windows and techstream and updated driver.👍

Windows 10 64 Bit also tried on an old laptop running Windows 7 32 Bit.

Techstream is v16

Hi Chris,

Have a look at this link to see if you have followed the install on both.

unfortunately the links have expired on that website

I think I have managed to sort out the problem. Testing it out in the morning.

Google 64bit mini vci driver. I think the recent copy i got was from somebody on "mega.nz". If you still cant find it message me.

My ReadMe notes:

Steps:

1. Install/check Win 10 ver 22H2 (contains latest service pack for .NET 4.6.2). Run "winver" to check your version.
2. run mvci x64 setup
3. run techstream v18 setup
4. plug in mvci xhorse adapter
5. copy TS_LoaderV18.exe into C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\bin
6. copy ts_loader shortcut to desktop
7. delete techstream shortcut on desktop
8. startup techstream using tsloader desktop shortcut
9. TS -> Setup -> VIM Select ->Xhorse-MVCI
10. TS -> Setup->Techstream Configuration: Area Selection: Europe
11. Connect To Vehicle: RED LED on MVCI adapter should flash a few times

useful directories:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\bin
C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS
