Rav 4 Noisy Gearbox 1st and 2nd

Hello, first post here apologies if this has been asked before on here, recently purchased Rav 4 from a dealership it's a 2013 model 2WD 2.0 litre.

When in first gear it whines very noticeably, similar to an electric motor sound and ever so slightly in 2nd (nothing as compared to when in first)

I have taken it to an independent garage, which they said there is a noise but not sure if all RAV4 have that sound? Bit the bullet and taken it to my local Toyota where frankly they said they wouldn't want to "strip it apart and wait for weeks for parts" and told me there is no issue when test driven.

I have attached a video as I am still not convinced, the sound is off putting when driving in first (it came with a tow bar fitted..) gear selection seems okay on the whole, haven't had the car long so hard to compare.

Please could someone advise me if this sound is normal or not for a RAV4 as tempted to take to another Toyota dealer, as I feel there is an issue but cannot return the car as gone past 30 days to the dealership and warranty company said it hasn't failed.

Hi

only guessing but when you said tow bar I immediately thought bearing wear in the box.

why don't you go find a gearbox specialist for an honest opinion.

only trying to help

The transmission is whining when the car slows down not when accelerating. Is that correct? I did quickly checked online and it shows a lots of similar results on low mileage cars. Perhaps the whining is coming from a gears itself and not bearings especially if it’s more pronounced when slowing down. It might be also a typical car transmission behaviour. Some posts mentioned a type of gear used in its differential. Best to do a wider research before attending any garages or mechanics as it might turn to be a characteristic of the car. No need to spend money and time trying to fix something that doesn’t need fixing. Check American forums , when you type rav4 transmission whining in Google they will pop up.
Good luck
