Headlight conversion possibilities?

Hi all,

I Have asked here before for suggestions on headlights/bulbs and had great help. I have since installed new white LED bulbs which did improve visibility somewhat but it is still garbage considering they are needed for safety at night.

Driving a friends car few nights ago, I was reminded, just how awful my cars headlights provide in terms of visiblity ahead, both short/long beam.

I was wondering, are there are any headlights units that we can upgrade on these cars? And if so what would be the easiest simplest and which would be best options ? Reflector headlight unit?

Perhaps a whole new units from top spec 2017 Auris, they seem to have led and provide better light. I don’t know how and how much will be the change. eBay used ones can be significantly cheaper than brand new.

Depends whether the OP has a 2015 pre-facelift or a 2015 post facelift, as the headlights are different.

The unit it's actually projector not reflector in the pictures, best imo is HID. Need to start from 55w ballast onwards. A relay will be required, watch YouTube videos on how to install. If you cannot do it then pay someone to do so.

I have a set for sale if interested pm me.

I've got HID bulbs on my mk1, well worth the hefty price tag the bulbs carry.

Maybe try adjusting the headlights manually, some cars have longer throw.

I had tried different bulb available in Europe. The best one so far is Bevinsee V35 or V45 but don't buy V55 (overheating from 70 watts power) for £45, 3 years warranty.   I used V45 and the LED chips is exactly where the Tungsten filament in halogen is.  So, the lights pattern is perfect in Auris projector beam.  I need to dial down the height 1 click (from 0/highest) position that we can adjust from inside the car. So far after 3 months, no one ever flashing headlights to me, the cut off is completly sharp and will never blind anyone as long as the road is flat not bumpy.

HID is about 3500 lumens, this LED is about 4300 lumens.  it is much fuller lights because of the broader lights (left and right). I  cannot distinguish wether my fog lights is on or off because the LED is already very bright.  However, LED/Xenon retrofiting is actually not allowed in UK and may be fine in Ireland.  By Law and MOT, we cannot change halogen with anything to prevent some irresponsible people can cause other blinded from bad light pattern LED or HID/Xenon.   In my opinion, that's a very good law but I found I hit too many curb at nights because of very dim lights on Auris 2 and safer by puting a good LED but adjusted properly.  Don't buy cheap HID, they never last long and problematic.  Get something like Morimoto, etc.  For LED, there are some youtuber who listed what we should buy with scientific measurements. 99% on the market are garbage.

As today, only few LED are legally allowed like Philips and Osram H7 bulbs. But it is only on specific countries and cars.  In facts, it is only marginally brighter <10% but white.

I hope the law will be changed about LED retrofitting.  Such as custom testing and measurements to make what we installed is good and legalized.  But as today, it has no such option. So, do it at your own risk.
