97 rav4 motor swap with 2002 motor

So I have a 97 front wheel drive RAV4 and I'm taking the motor out of a 2002 with all-wheel drive what are the issues if any do I have to swap ecu's are there any wiring harness issues is it going to be a pretty easy switch any help would be greatly appreciated

Not going to be easy/straight forwards they may both be RAV4 but are totally different platforms / engines,

  • a 97 Rav4 is generation 1 1994-1999 using either a 3SFE OR 3SGE 2.0 4 cylinder engine 
  • a 2002 is generation 2 2000-2005 using either 1ZZFE 1.8, 1AZFE 2.0 OR 2AZFE 2.4 4 Cylinder VVTi engine

nothing will be plug and play and will require considerable adaption to make it fit/work
