Hi all

I have a 2013 Toyota Aygo. The indicators stopped working a few weeks ago. The hazards also became intermittent but have now also stopped working. I've done some searching for the problem online and seem to be getting nowhere fast. I was told the indicator stalk is the problem, but the headlights work fine and are on the same stalk, and as I mentioned the hazards don't work either and they're not on the stalk.

I have checked the fuse in the engine bay but that is ok. I even replaced it for another good fuse. I suspect it could be the indicator relay, but I can't find out where this is after looking at several diagrams online. I was told by somebody on facebook that the relay is actually in the stalk, and someone else said it is in the fusebox, but neither person elaborated, sadly, so I'm still at a loss without this information.

I'm hoping someone on here can be helpful as to helping me find the relay location as the MOT is now expired and I can't drive the car until it's fixed.

Ah the font of knowledge that is Facebook

stalks are a common fail point, hazard switches are also an issue - break the diagnostics down

the indicator relays are on the PCB of the instrument cluster/fuse box

basic test

Move the stalk up and down 20-30 times (as indicating left and right)

press and wobble the hazard switch

disconnect the indicator stork under the steering cowl and try the hazards

disconnect the hazard switch, plug the stalk back in and try the indicators

Thanks Flash.

What exactly is the PCB? Are these easy to replace and get new parts for?

The headlights work ok on the stalk so I'm not entirely sure that if is the problem, but it is coming up a lot so i'll bear it in mind.

i hit the wrong button and posted to soon, see my edit above

the indicator stalk contacts are different to the headlights in the stalk they are separate circuits

PCB - Printed circuit board, this is the whole instrument cluster, the relays are soldered to the pcb - let me find a thread on the subject

OK, so I just had another play around with it. I moved the stalk up and down a lot, and then around in a circular motion for a minute or two and they slowly came back to life. So they now work on the stalk, albeit 9 tenths of the way up and dow, but not in the fully locked position. Down works in the locked position sometimes, but very infrequently. The hazards are still completely gone, nothing happening at all there so may order a new button to see if that helps,

Interestingly, when I lock the car via the key fob, the hazards flash as they should. So I suspect now possibly it is the stalk and button that need replacing lol

Really not a fan of the idea of taking off the steering wheel and airbag though I have to say.

You can unplug the stalk under the wheel for testing - 2 screws behind the wheel one on the left one on the right accessed by turning the wheel (same as you would to access the fuses) iirc its 2 or 3 screws in the lower cowl you can then unplug the stalk,

hazard switch maybe fine, it's the stalk causing the issue

avoid the cheap Chinese stalks on eBay

as for changing the stalk it is straight forward, disconnect the Battery for 20 mins before working on the car
