C-HR thefts

We are seeing an increase in Toyota vehicles being targeted in keyless thefts particularly the C-HR model. If you have one please consider using aftermarket security devices such as steering locks and immobilisers as the thefts tend to be OBD port type attacks so these devices will offer the best defence to this type of theft. 🔐 🚗 🚔

Yep, just read it on Birmingham live, with more and more EV's and hybrids been sold nicking the batteries will be the next big thing.

Just turn off the key fob. Lock it then press and hold lock and unlock. RED led flashes four times. Check by going up to car and it should not unlock when pulling the door handle.

I have recently been the victim of an attempted theft of my CH-R by CANbus entry through the nearside headlight. Not successful, but a lot of damage was done in the attempt.

Does anyone know if Toyota are going to make available an anti-theft cover plate for the headlight connector, as they have already done for the RAV-4? The CH-R seems to have the same vulnerability to this kind of attack.

My take on this is that it should be done FOC by Toyota UK in the same way that they would if it were classified as a safety recall. At present, RAV-4 owners have to ask for it from the dealer and pay a £70 labour charge.

The threat described in this thread prompted me to look at what's available for my car. Stoplock have nothing that fits the CHR so maybe I need a rather expensive Disklok?  What do other readers use on their CHR?

Thanks, but I have doubts about those devices which lock onto the steering wheel rim as per yours. I've been told that thieves simply cut out a piece of the steering wheel rim to  remove the lock!

Agreed. I have given thoughts to this (my C-HR is kept on our driveway (garage too loaded with storage racking), and an extra level isn’t a bad idea.  I could not get my previous VW Caravelle into the garage anyhow but, when the caravan is finally sold, I’ll be able to put the C-HR behind tall locked gates.

Does make you think about the couldn’t-care-less attitude bye car manufacturers.  You would think they would give a lot more thought to possible theft, and introduce very robust anti-theft protection during assembly.  Much more sensible than some of the “boys’ toys” they push in their sales blurb.

The Stoplock Pro Elite fits my C-HR. I bought it for my Yaris Cross and have found it ok with my C-HR.

Ok so I had my brand new CHR stolen in Spain by professional thieves who we think used the signal coming from my fob to duplicate a key. The car ended up in Poland. I was gutted as I had every extra on the car and it was my pride and joy. 5 years on and I have another CHR in the UK now and I have bought small Faraday cage pouch for the key when at home, this stops the signal being broadcast constantly and the pro thieves cannot clone the key. They can come to your front door and search the signal with some tech and then copy it. Get a Faraday pouch or metal box to store your key when at home I would recommend it ***** the CHR is as said in the string a luxury car.

The thieves have moved on! It is now some wiring under NSF wheel arch they go for no requirement to find the key signal.

As an anti-theft precaution, my wife is careful never to wash the C-HR so that potential thieves can't tell what colour it is. She then fills the interior with old receipts, crisp packets and sweet wrappers, and spills coffee and baby milk on the upholstery to make the interior as unattractive as possible. She is careful never to lock the doors, so a potential thief won't do any damage to the vehicle in gaining entry. The radio is left at maximum volume so anyone will be immediately deafened if they switch on the ignition. Then finally she hides the key fob in such a safe place that even she cannot find it.

As yet it has been 100% effective in preventing her car from being stolen. This doesn't just work with C-HRs, its a method she's employed with every car she's owned in the past and none of them were stolen either...

Oddly I think someone stole the cover off the front bumper that covers the front towing eye at the weekend.  I would be surprised if it had fallen off.

Words fail me!!.  Toyota want £18 for a new one

One of the reasons I upgraded the security system on mine, any attempt to access the wiring will be met with an alarming surprise.
