2014 Avensis gear shift light always on?

Hi all,

I noticed this morning whilst driving on motorway, the gear shift light (up) was on constant whilst in 6th gear on 80mph above (pic attached).

Could you advise why this is the case? Because usually this should go off as obviously the car has not got 7 gears, so what does this meant to mean.

Thanks

As far as I know there is a sensor in the gearbox monitoring which gear is on.

Does the light work correctly with other gears?

I wonder could techstream turn this shift up or down lights off as tbh there more annoying than any good I hate those lights coming on .apart from taking the bulb out of the back of the speedo lights

The last time I read about a similar problem, the gearbox was replaced with a lower ratio version from another model. I think the gearbox or internals were replaced with the correct parts to correct the problem.

Did problem just start and you never noticed this before? There has been no transmission carried out that you know of!

@2009joe good question about Techstream, though I have hardly used it in the last year or two. I find the shift lights useful like the 'ECON' light on my previous Avensis leanburn. They don't annoy me as much, because they are not on much. I must get the gears right. Unfortunately everything is LED which is soldered on. The best would be to cover offending lights! I watch a few YouTube mechanics and most god ones frown on certain things. Covering things is one.
