Yaris Mk1 Manifold Replacement.

Hi guys,

I have a Mk1 Yaris which has a hole in one of the 4 pipes on the manifold. I have taken my car to a garage to see if there is anything more that will need doing to it. Ive spoken to them today and they have said its just the manifold from what they can see. They're suggesting that i will need to buy a manifold with a catalytic converter on to carry out the repair.

However, when i had a look myself. The manifold connects to the top part of the exhaust that comes through the bottom end of engine bay. Then following the exhaust you then get to the cat'.

What i am trying to find out/understand is, do i really need to buy & replace the cat' when the manifold part that needs replacing does not have a cat on it. only the section of exhaust that is connected to the manifold via a bracket, which is underneath the car, has the cat on?

I hope the above makes sense, please ask away if more detail is needed.

Can you post a pic? How big is the hole? Might be easier to source and fit a new manifold.

The downpipe separates and it then best to use a new donut ring seal there.

I had a similar problem with my 1999 Mk1 Yaris 3 or 4 years ago. I just bought a second hand manifold on eBay (from Foreign Car Spares) for about £50 and got my local garage to fit it. Didn't need the Cat - as you say - it isn't part of the manifold.
