Thinking out aloud... but, used IQ prices seem so high.

Looking on eBay this morning, they seem to range from just under £2,000 to just under £11,000!

That's 2009 to 2014, so not new cars.

I bought mine because I liked the brand, style, level of equipment, no tax and low insurance and reasonable MPG.

Maybe that's why?

IQs are very much sought after Piers, especially good examples 👍

It's an opportunuty to drive a car that's very distinctive, but a very easy ownership proposition!  Similar in a few ways to the Nissan Cube - oddball looks, no aggression in the design, fun, but practical.  Not trying too hard to be cool - I bet you get let into queues of traffic quicker than most cars...

So true to both posts.

For me it took an age for the penny to drop with regards to the car's name.

Toyota's take on a 'Smart' car, so it got called an IQ (intelligence quotient)...

Prices are all over the place in the south, there is always a premium on small cars, the Aygo and IQ have their own bubble

And some are on another planet

There are quite a few late JDM cars being imported, the newest one I have seen is a 2018

then you have the cygnet

Just got one for my mother in law after she wrote off her Hyundai Getz - we paid 10,995 for hers. 63 plate but only 8k on the clock and when not being used was always garaged....its in perfect nick. She loves it. My mate has been looking for one for a while but cant find one....apparently all the cheap ones have either been crashed and repaired or high uber high mileage...

I think used car prices are still set artificially too high, but you can buy cheaper if you look for higher mileage IQ or the lower models and look for smaller independent dealers further away from your location.

Or buy privately..

Be careful i would say, as i said earlier my mate is currently looking for one and cant find one (hes meticulous in his research) and has found that the cheap ones are either crash repaired or high milers or, have other issues (he been to look at some) and usually finds something that has not been advertised....

Just another thing....my mate was put off by the clutch issue...he just sees a high miler as the reason to pay 600 to 1k for a clutch change when....you can do it yourself....its pretty easy so if you did find one that needed a clutch you could get  a bargain!

There are plenty of rough ones about, usually on FB marketplace

Wow, can't believe the prices, just looked after seeing this post... our launch 2009 black with 30k miles and sat nav and all the original accessories (passenger pouch, boot cover) and in near mint condition would beat things on autotrader at 8.5k !

Although never selling as there's nothing like it to replace it with. We still see it as the real 'new mini' (which it replaced in our household).

If anyone is after a supercharged IQ, there is one on Autotrader for just a tad over £21K.

Like the one in my first post, its worth 8-9K modified cars are not worth much and are usually dead money, most learn this the hard way, you can't count every penny you spend

Personally im doing the subtle oem type of upgrades....plus staying on top of the maintenance...

1. Changed the clutch, (thats another story) along with the master and slave.

2. Changed the rear dampers

3. Front right shock changed.

4. LED lights added to the footwells

5. New plugs.

6. Replaced windscreen wiper rubber seals.

All the above work...wherever i can i replace with stainless fittings.

Next to do.

1. Add extra sound proofng all around the car.

2. Upgraded Speakers on order oEM replacement so itll not look any different.

3. The biggie...cd upgrade to full headunit.

Another thing for you 'mods' list - extension hose on air conditioning outlet pipe in engine bay. This prevents water ingress to the passenger footwell.

I'm interested in this.

The IQ is the only car I have bought twice. I have had tonnes of cars, and sold my BMW M240 last year simply to put cash in the bank.

Because I always loved and missed the IQ I spent some time sourcing another decent one. I paid £4800 in October last year for an IQ2 in Black with the cream interior, with 41k on the clock from, of all places, a Ford dealer in the counties. I chose that one over all else simply on condition as I am into detailing and enjoy cherishing - so the first thing I did when I got it was improve the dealer condition. It went from excellent to showroom after I finished with it. It was a trade in and I saw an opportunity.

I don't plan on ever selling, but I do wonder with the way things are going how desirable these now are. You can park it anywhere and its almost free motoring - no tax and cheap insurance. MPG is insane, 4 seats, character, and a Toyota Badge. And now, hard to come by.

To add, mine is a 61 plate. I really wanted the leather seats but I couldn't pass up the mileage and condition of mine, so polka dot it is.

Just a thought - I maybe wrong - but is is better to change shocks in pairs?

Well... inspired by this and other threads, I had my standard front door Speakers replaced with the recommended plug and play Focals, plus some additional door skin sound deadening.

Very happy with them.

A louder, fuller and richer sound.

I am sure, Andy, you'll be happy with yours!
