Auris hybrid Spring season clean up and maintained

Hi everyone,

I had some work done on the car over the last two days.
I gave the lady a good wash including the door shuts and engine bay. It wasn’t that dirty, however I do like to do that once a year to clean the salt and grit accumulated during the winter months.
Nothing fancy really, just simple cleaning with tfr, pre wash Snow Foam and car shampoo, jet wash and dry.
With the car nice and clean now there are a lots of visual signs of being on the older side.
There are tons of stone chips all over, rust here and there , paint peeling off even on the rear hatch door shut, that was a surprise to  me to discover. I had a quote for re spray the doors both for £500 and probably would have done it but after cleaning and seen it all the paint issues I don’t think is viable to spend money on paint. Will carry on with vinyl wrap and save for a new car in near future.
Now update on the tyres:  after 17500 miles I rotated them as per the book diagonally, measured fronts were at 6mm where rears at 7mm. Wheels are still ok with some stone chips too, but not bad for 100k miles covered.
The car also had received its new rear brake discs and pads, new slider pins , fronts are still good , just got them cleaned and lubed.
Well that’s pretty much all the work I have done.  Egr system will be next, hopefully in the upcoming weeks.
Here some photos.

Good job.

No point getting an old car respray, in addition with all the motorways miles u do doesn't make sense. Did want to get pressure washer in anticipation of moving to a place where it has a driveway, that didn't happen so until then.

If money was no object I would have my 1996 Volvo 940 auto estate part re-painted. Needs bonnet, rear quarter and rear screen side trim painting.

It's not worth it financially. Paid £250 for the car 6 years ago and is my work vehicle. I keep it mechanically sound and serviced and it serves me well.

Now on 208,000 miles. Not bad for a petrol auto. Reliable and a good work horse.

All very sensible Tony, she’s got a few more miles left in her - but (from your other posts) costly repairs are on the horizon. Ideally you would want to sell it on with a bit of residual life remaining to avoid having to scrap?

still thinking a Corolla TS for your next? Loads on the undead market now, and seem to be good for some serious mileage, despite some small flaws

Thanks Graeme,

I would love to have a Corolla TS after this one, probably my most favourite of all latest Toyotas 👌
Not sure yet what my job will be as major changes are coming and I may not even need a car anymore, stop driving or become a driving instructor.
If the later happens Corolla TS will be off my list as no one will book a driving lesson in an estate car 😉 and I will look at Corolla hatchback, Yaris or Yaris cross. I like all three although been in all every time I sat in the Corolla I felt like I am in a more premium car.
For now I am sticking with the Auris as I need another 6-12 months before the change. I don’t mind actually keeping it till her end and then I will take her to her final destination which will be either scrap yard or my cousin place and dismantled for parts.

Thanks.
I will soon. Just waiting for the weather as the forecast is another 10 days of rain. This year even the good weather seems in a short supply 😂🌤🌦

I just swap all seasons to summer tires.  I scrubs and spray the front struts with spray paint from LIDL $3, and it works perfectly.  My front struts were crunchy and crispy but only surface rust.  I almost strips the entire bottom parts of the  struts  because of surface rust.  It still leak free and firms like what it should be.

I went to car wash and pay $1 to gets underbody pressure wash.  Washing off all remaining dirt, muds, and salts that can cause rust over time.  The body has 0 rust but some suspension parts can have some surface rust.  Suspension bolts like on the stabilizer links are all rusty and jammed.  I almost always need to cut the bolts or nuts when trying to open/replace them. Newer Corolla 2019 have plastic nuts cover. Very simple solutions that I wish I did it years ago.

Starship mileage for sure Tony 🚀

It all looks in pretty decent condition all things considered and the corrosion is minimal by the looks of it. Keep on trekkin' I say.

Thank you.
It’s not too bad indeed. On the picture can make it look better or worse but in reality it’s ok. Let see how far the hybrid Battery and other hybrid components plus the engine and transmission will last and these probably will dictate her destiny.
