Hi,

all Toyotas, new or old are rattling to some extent. Nothing to worry about. It’s just a thing that comes when buying a Toyota., next will be a rattling seat belts, squeaky seats, rattling door cards, sun visors etc. If everything was perfect then these would have been the best cars in the world.

I have had my 66 reg Yaris since Feb this year, and have an annoying rattle on drivers side dashboard, it's been back to the dealers twice and supposedly fixed, which it has not, has anyone  any remedies please?

A pillar trim as it meets the dash and/or the tweeter in the A pillar

A bit of Tesa tape on the A pillar trim bottom edge usually sorts it

My 30K miles 64 reg rattles from the trim on the drivers side A pillar when weather is cold - probably due to the thermal expansion and shrinkage of plastic trims - they tend to rattle worse under some conditions and dont rattle at all when they warm up.

I have very creaky and squeeky door cards when you press on them to open or close the door. The gearstick gaiter seems to sqeek against the gear stick inside as well.

Clutch pedal clicks when starting to press it down, and that's quite annoying. Glovebox tends to rattle as well.

I've had 3 Yaris's from Mk1, then Mk2 and now Mk3 and every one of them has had rattles and squeeks - as Tony says, its a Toyota thing, but them again, I;ve had Ford's Renaults, Vauxhalls and other makes over my 33 years driving experience, and pretty much all of them had rattles as well, so I think its mainly the properties of plastic as it shrinks and expands due to heat or cold in the car, and this causes adjoining plastics to rub against each other and cause the squeeks and rattles.

My solution is to turn the radio up. I'd rather have a reliable Toyota that doesnt break down all the while with some squeeks and rattles. No car is perfect, they all have their foibles.

For panel squeaks try some silicone spray (yellow cap wd40). If you can get access, use some self adhesive felt on hard surfaces or as flash22 mentions some tesa tape on joints - although this tends to come off after a while.

I have my Avensis since 2008 and a rattle appeared last year. Are you herding sheep in Scotland with it or what?

Just the roads in the UK - every day is NHV test, especially around London

I’ve had a rattle from the bottom of the dash since day 1. After about a week to work out where it was coming from, I’ve stuffed a tissue between the two panels which has cured it. Will get the dealer to sort it out when it goes in for it’s first service.

I had a hard to locate rattle, sounded to be from one of the side vents or a little storage opening close to it.

Wrong - it was the diagnostic socket, under the dash. Similar to Shaun, a piece of strategically stuffed foam silenced it. It's amazing how these things appear to come from everywhere they are not!

Which panels?

On drivers side, there is a lower panel that clips into place, this is the panel that rattles. Ideally needs a rubber strip, something like draught excluder or similar.
