GRMN fuel

Hi, I previously posted how I wasn't given an owners manual with my GRMN which I've had a few weeks.

I have now got a copy, which I've read. I was told to use premium unleaded petrol by the dealer and obviously it says the same inside the petrol cap.

In the manual it says use 97 octane or above but not to use any fuel with ethanol in it, marked as E5 or E10.

As far as I can see all premium unleaded around me is marked up as E5 and has at least a little ethanol in it.

Which fuels do other owners use?

Esso's Synergy+99 fuel supposedly has no ethanol in it according to their website, although it's still marked as E5 for legal reasons. There are some areas where it still has ethanol tho', most notably scotland.

I'm not sure how strict the no ethanol thing is with the GRMN, as that seems a bit impractical.

That's what I thought, I get that in 2018 E10 wasn't around yet, but according to the gov website all toyotas are compatible with E10 except 2 models of Avensis. So whether the Grmn being a limited run was forgotten about I don't know.

as its a performance engine use the best fuel with the highest octane, a 2018 2ZR-fe supercharged (Eaton MP62 ?) will be Euro 6

Slight update on the Esso petrol; I put some in today on my test of various fuels, and was asking the cashier about the 0 ethanol thing in their super unleaded; Apparently that is currently true, but in September they're having to switch to an ethanol blend so it really will be E5 just like everyone else...

Had a quick peek at the website and that seems to confirm it

It's a shame as this stuff feels really nice; It's noticeably smoother and quieter and has a bit more kick than the Shell V-Power I was using beforehand, which was much less impressive (No noticeable difference to the Sainsburys E10 I usually use!).

I have noticed my 1ND-TV-equipped diesel Yarisusesieses seem to preferred Shell V-Power diesel and ran noticeably smoother and 'revvier', but hated Esso diesel which made them feel a bag of nails had been dropped into the cylinders, but the petrol 1NR-FE Mk2 and M15A-FXE Mk4 felt no different on V-Power petrol but slightly 'better' on Esso petrol.

I saw a YouTube video of a guy testing various fuels for Ethanol and he claims BP Ultimate has zero in it, and there's a BP garage near my in laws so I'm going to try that next time. It's got Momentum 99 in it currently and goes well so I'll see if BP makes any different. I love this car, I've wanted one since release but took till now to get one! So I don't want to damage the engine with crap fuel.

Hi,

you are not going to damage the engine if you fill it in with e10, it’s just not as good as e5 or e0. The difference is in response, noise, acceleration and fuel consumption. I use exclusively e5 99 momentum from Tesco and the car drives and feels way better than any other e10. Tried Shell v power and esso and bp premium 99 e5 and no difference to Tesco e5 , the Tesco one however it’s cheaper. You can also use some additives in the fuel. I had this one but I don’t use often. However if I need to fill up with e10 definitely will add some of this. Wynn's 38911 Specialist E10 Petrol Fuel Protector Makes E10 Safe For All Petrol Engines https://amzn.eu/d/dapPdO6
