Hi all. This week the cat was stolen from my auris even with the cat lock on it.

someone in the auris forum kindly informed me that this cannot happen with the Corolla and Yaris.

is there any with experience with this on here? or is it still a case of the most determined thieves will still take it?

thanks.

Hi Steven,

Prius gen4 , ch-r, Corolla, Yaris and Yaris cross has cats directly connected to the engine block as the exhaust manifold is part of the block on these cars which makes cutting and taking the cat away almost impossible.
This is the good news, the bad one though is that some thick thieves cut and take away the gpf second cat which is under the car and exposed. Very rare but we do have a case here recorded two years ago. Nothing ever since then, so  these cars are much safer bet.
Corolla is also a nice upgrade to the Auris.

Thanks Tony.

I did have a 2.0 Corolla as a courtesy car for a few months and it was a nice drive.

however having just looked at the price of an excel I’m surprised at how much they have increased since i bought my auris which was about a year and half ago.

for the same money you can get a focus 1.0 or 1.5t vignale with all the bells and whistles 😳

Prices are out of touch indeed. Only worth buying a brand new one through a carwow or drive the deal. I had a wonderful  quote for Corolla design 1.8 23 model for £268 a month, on Toyota  page comes at £430 , with paint option £446, massive difference. Just don’t want to spent money on a new car before my one dies completely.

Yeh they have all gone up. I was happy with my auris to be honest but i feel it’s a liability now.

You can sell and buy an electric. The evs are cheaper now than Toyota hybrids. My gf has ioniq electric, what a wonderful car and can be found for as little as £16000 for 2021 model. Super comfy, as good as Prius or top spec Corolla TS or saloon and better car than Corolla hatchback, more space on rear seat and boot. Real world range 150miles in pretty much most conditions. Seriously I would  have bought  one myself but these mileage it’s not enough for me as I do 200-300 a night. For anyone else an ev can actually fit the bill. Another good one is Nissan Leaf, again start at circa £16-17k. Corolla it is difficult to find anything good for less than £20k and some good used ones are more expensive than brand new. Honestly I will rather buy a vw than overpriced Toyota hybrid.

Agreed about the VW, the prices being asked now are silly. I’m personally leaning towards ford atm.

as regards the leaf and the ioniq I completely agree. A close friend had both the old and new leaf and has recently upgraded to a Tesla. And I work mate has the ioniq which I think is fantastic especially the heated and cooled seats.

However I live in an area where it is simply impossible to charge an EV at home and I also make regular trips to london so an EV really wouldn’t work for me.. although if it did I’d have one for sure.

Yeah, I like the idea of an EV but for me they're not practical in the real world yet as they're too big, don't have the range, and they're a real pain to live with unless you can charge at home.

I can wait it out tho' - After all, I waited over a decade for someone to make a better car than my Mk1 D4D!

Hi all.

So I’m seriously considering swapping my auris for a Corolla next week.

The reason is simply because I would like to keep a hybrid but feel the auris is too much of a risk for cat theft.

I currently have an excel but I notice the trim options are a little different on the Corolla.

I really like the tech in mine so I guess I would need an excel again but there are also extras I would like on a new car such as radar cruise, better sound system if possible, Apple car play and LED lights all round but I’m not sure if only excel have these specs.

Also if my reason for changing car is fear of cat theft is this type of car a daft choice or is the general consensus that they are safe?

Finally do they offer a cat lock on this shape?

Thank you all.

Any help as regards trim and engine choice would be appreciated too.

Not sure if to go for the 1.8 or 2.0 if I was to buy one.

I've got a 2.0 Excel and cant speak highly enough of it. Previously had a 1.8 CHR (also an Excel) which was great but the 2.0 engine makes all the difference in my opinion.

Thanks David. I did actually have a 2.0 Corolla estate for a while as a lease and it was nice. Pulled well but wasn’t the greatest on fuel.

At this point I’m not as bothered about the fuel and just want a reliable car that’s auto.

As you can see here , if you go for Excel with the 2.0 engine , you would have better fuel consumption

i love my corolla, had a 2ltr design and now 2ltr gr sport, EV has a long way to go before it becomes practical on range, also have read of some folks being `fined` for over staying their time on the charging point.

you can buy a shield for the 2nd cat. Even if we are unlucky enough, we can weld an empty pipe and will not cause any code.  It will also pass the emission from MOT because the main job is done by the 1st cat.

Just make sure sell the EV before Battery warranty expired.  Any saving even with home solar cell are gone once we need new Battery

Hi all.
considering on the MyT app you can see the car’s location does that mean it has a tracker and can bring insurance price down?

I love this app, I’m not sure if these features worked on my auris but it didn’t seem to be an option.

The fact you can see the cars location, fuel, mileage and look over the recent journeys is brilliant.

It isn't a security type tracker, so probably won't have any effect on insurance.
