Alloy Spare Wheel - 2017 MK3

Hi

I'm looking to place replace the space saver in my Yaris with a full size alloy.

When I had a flat I tried placing that in the spare wheel well and noticed that it was higher than the boot floor and the securing bolt wasn't long enough.

Has anyone else had experience replacing the spare with a full size alloy?

Does toyota offer a longer securing bolt and higher floor?

You do have a higher floor position for load board integrated into side trims.

You'd also have to measure length of bolt required and probably get one made at local engineering firm.

I managed to find a replacement third party retaining bolt on eBay that is long enough.

I also got the higher floor, loses a little bit of space but may be worth it to have a proper spare.

If one regularly commute high speed distances then full size comes in handy. Haven't needed to use even the space saver myself.

I replaced the "spacesaver" with a full size alloy. I'll not go into how I achieved the alloy, absolutely not dodgy  - too long a story! A steel wheel, used or new, and tyre would be fine as a spare though.

I have only used a "spacesaver" once, a 5 miles drive to a tyre place. Absolutely hated it. Even keeping below 50m.p.h. was scarey. In spite of that, better than any inflation kit which would be of no use with a split tyre at 3am, in the middle of nowhere.

As you have discovered the wheel is too wide for the boot floor to sit properly. I made another raised floor from m.d.f. and used the higher supports.

No need for an engineering firm, it's easy. I purchased a used securing screw, kept the plastic part and replaced the threaded piece with a suitable length of threaded stud bar, can't remember the thread size, M8? That's M8, not the dreaded mate.
