RAV4.5 - Infotainment Messages

I have recently taken delivery of a new 2023MY RAV HEV.  I am already getting tired of the number of buttons I need to press before using the infotainment system - my previous car, a VW, didn't require me to click "Continue", then tick two boxes and click "I agree" before a useful screen is displayed.  Is there any way to stop this?  Once I've agreed to something I don't see why I need to be asked again every time I start the car...

I'm sure that it just goes to the home screen if you leave it?

Yes mine goes to the home screen if you just leave it, takes a second or two 👍

I did try that, but obviously I didn't wait long enough Colin!  Patience is a virtue as they say...

Thanks, Andy

It is a long boot time but it does give your location after the boot sequence so assume it’s locking onto to satellites at the the same time.

Good point Ernie.  I shall be patient!

We’ve all been there Andy, I only realised I didn’t need hit the continue button when I was sorting out the heating during the first winter after I bought the car which was 6 months earlier.

I not that long ago got the RAV4.5 plug-in dynamic. The music system seems to be only on front Speakers. Are there anymore Speakers. I was told I would be getting 6. Anyway goes back on Thursday for them to look at it. The system does not show ‘balance’ to change from rear to front or left to right, so this worries me.

Also in the glove compartment there is fuse cover. Does anyone know where this goes? I will ask my garage on Thursday.

I was told that I would be getting my second key fob or remote in April, but when I called yesterday no one seemed to know about this. And I was since told Toyota have told them they cannot put in orders for Keyfobs until the end of April. Nice.

I assume that you have the newer Smart Connect media system in your MY23 RAV4 HEV?

Most of the responses above come from those of us who have the earlier Toyota Touch system - we have only to read the warning about applying brain while using the satnav and "Continue". We don't have to "Agree" to the Ts&Cs of the TomTom traffic system and Navitech / Here POI system - 'cos we don't have those features on our cars.

As others have said, the earlier system will "continue" anyway after not too long a delay, but I don't know whether or not you can continue without agreeing to the Ts&Cs and what happens if you don't. Perhaps you could let us know ... 😉

Philip - you're quite right, it is the newer system I have.  The "continue" message goes away after a moment or two, but then I get the screen with a blue background with a mass of wording, two check boxes, and a choice of buttons to press.  Sadly that one does not go away!  I now just click "Don't agree", unless I want to use the Satnav or AirPlay when I assume I will need to give Toyota my permission first... What a faff.

One thing they have tried being smart with, is the LTA Lane Tracing Assist. So if you cross lanes without indicating there is a reminder. Now in the RAV4.4 the reminder was resistance to the steering wheel, and an audible beep and possibly vibration to the steering wheel and this could be permanently switched off. I hated it so switched it off.

Now the RAV4.5 they have gone further. You cannot switch it off permanently. What you do have is a switch on the steering wheel, after startup, if you press this switch for a few seconds you see the LTA symbol disappear and it is switch off for that journey. But if you stop and start the car again it comes back on.

There is more function now as well, you can remove audible beep and vibration to the steering wheel, you can change the sensitivity of both of these.

I really hate having this. Now I have my advance driving license, and one of the biggest parts of advance driving is to reduce distractions. Keep your eyes looking where they need to be, use all your senses, use kinaesthetic, so feel what the steering is doing. So when you plan to overtake, or come back in to the lane, sometimes there is no reason to indicate, so to suddenly find the steering wheel is being pulled away from you is a distraction, and for me irritating. So I now go through a sequence of turning this off on every journey.

If there is a object in the road you want to avoid or where I live ruddy big holes in the road I want to avoid, so it is annoying when I steer away from them to find the steering wheel pulling me back.

I demonstrated this to my wife the other day on an empty motorway. The bend in the road was going to 2 o’clock, I let go of the steering wheel to go straight on, and the car steered all around this bend perfectly, you could see the steering wheel correcting its self as I went round, it wouldn’t go straight on.

I totally agree; They're designing cars for people who shouldn't be allowed to drive. They're going absolutely the wrong way about increasing road safety - Instead of making drivers better, they're making them worse and using technology to compensate.

It's going to get to the point where we'll be asking why do we even need to have a driving licence!

Did you have a dash cam fitted? If so, the piggy back fuse they will use to hard wire it will sit proud in the fuse box and the lid won't go back on. Hence it finds a new home in the glovebox.

Cheers, garage told me about this.

I have now been shown by the technician how to change the balance. I had no hope of finding this. It was not shown in my handbook or on the internet. It is in a place completely different to other settings. I enclose photos.

... and I attach the corresponding page from your Multimedia owner's manual:

I suspect that you might want to download the manual ... 😉

I downloaded the manual recently, all 280 pages of it!  And that's just for the multimedia system, as the owner's manual was another 700-800 page document!!!

I'm picking mine up tomorrow and don't fancy wading through that lot just to adjust the audio, so thank you to ScottyDog for posting 👍
