Aygo 2012: keys won't lock/unlock doors

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have an issue with my 5 doors aygo from 2012 which doesn't have a central locking system or key fobs etc. Probably similar topics occurred many times before but I wasn't able to find an answer to my question or a comparable situation.

The driver sides lock works perfectly fine and also no issues occur with the ignition.
On the passenger it can be very difficult to insert the key fully and this usually requires several attempts, when it is fully inserted the door can be locked/unlocked without any problem.
For the tailgate it initially was very difficult to insert the key as well, however, after using silicone spray and a compressed air to get all the gunk out this is not a problem anymore. However, I cannot rotate the cylinder to unlock the tailgate.

The problems are the same for both keys and from the inside the doors can be locked/unlocked easily using the pin of the passenger door or the black latch the disengages the catch mechanism

Can anybody help me with the identification of the problem and a possible solution? My initial hypothesis was that it was just full of dirt but at the moment I am not sure anymore. I do have a technical background (currently an aerodynamics student) but I don't know anything about locks. If possible I would also like to fix it myself to learn more about this kind of stuff but also to limit the financial strain.

Many thanks in advance!
Greetings

Noooooooooooooo, its fine as a cleaner/degreaser but has very little lubricating properties

its gunge in the lock spray the carp out of it with GT85 or duck oil - they gunge up with dirt and road grime through the lack of use

tailgate lock - It's either badly gunged up, broken or someone has changed it, and you don't have the key - try giving it a clean first, if not pop the lock out and take it to a locksmith they can either make a key to suit, re pin the lock to your key, failing that replace it
