Sorry for all the questions.....

I can't find explanations for a couple of icons in the top right corner of the screen. 1 looks like a up pointing nav arrow with 2 left/right arrows next to it, and next to this are lines with DCM under them. The vary like my phone signal bars do. Can't find anything on manual.

Also how do I find out if my maps are up to date, and is updating a dealer thing like my previous car, or can we do it ourselves via pc.

Also what's the point of the wireless connection my phone, does it obtain live traffic data for the navigation

Thanks in advance... I've not had a car with so many things before, so I feel a bit dim😕

Per the owners manual attached ( page19 ) The Nav Arrow with arrows denotes use of Cloud/Connected Navigation map, DCM shows the connection status of the DCM (Data communication module) yours cars imbedded network connection back to Toyota.

Your car does included an embedded map set for occasions when there is no data connection available and cloud maps cannot be accessed, these can be updated by users via estore on the MyT portal HERE

What do you mean by Wireless connection. there ar two "wireless" connection types:

  • bluetooth for mobile phone calls & media
  • Wi-Fi For Apple car play wireless connection and can be connected to a Wi-fi hotspot for updates

@Devon Aygo

Thanks for that. I downloaded the 850 page manual, but didn't notice a multimedia manual.  I shall have a good read of this....

So from what you have said, I assume that the maps are continuously updated from the cloud and displayed, unless there is no data, and it then uses the inbuilt maps. How can I check the inbuilt maps are up to date. I was surprised when I first got it, and it refused to connect my phone to bluetooth, then popped up saying there was a software update and proceeded to download and install.  I assumed that the dealers had loaded up the software but not installed it.  It obviously uses a 4G connection then.

Phone connected fine after the update and a reboot of the system.

With regard to wireless I wondered why I would need to connect my phone wireless to the unit.  I have an android phone, so would use Android auto.  If I connected to a wireless hotspot (ie use my phones 4G as a hotspot), the car would use that connection for downloading updates rather then its internal 4G??

Again many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I am sure I will get used to this technology eventually.

I've attached some pics of the map data screen. It seems to me the maps are out of date, but the car doesn't seem to be using cloud based maps as some of the roads are not on it. How do I get it to use the cloud maps.

Been on the MyT app and only 1 update came up, is this the correct download, and his do I update the maps. I'm logged into MyT with my car details.

Thanks for any help.

That looks very much like the correct update ...

Forget the MyT app; get onto a proper computer, log-in to My Toyota, download that update via the e-Store and unpack to USB (formatted FAT32). Plug the USB into the multimedia system and follow the instructions. It will take around 75 minutes and the car needs to be in Ready mode (though you can interrupt and restart the process).

I can't help on the cloud front since I don't have the latest smart connect system ... 😉

Thanks. I'll get that sorted. Slightly worrisome regards the reference to turkey on the maps.  Is that normal .

Any specific size of USB

32GB is enough - I'm not sure that the update will fit in 16GB any more but you'll know once you've downloaded the update.

Turkey is where the car was built but I was also surprised by that. The full USB update should replace that completely ...

Great thanks.

Any 2.0 USB up to 32gb will work. It must be formatted to FAT32. I used a 16gb USB for my last map update (done in October last year)

To clarify, I'm not using a 2.0 litre USB

While the size and shape of a USB stick may all look similar, the key is to look at the color of the plastic inside the device. The USB 1.0 features a white plastic color, while USB 2.0 is black, and the USB 3.0 is blue.
