2008 Yaris 1.3 , Cylinder 4 misfire

Have scanned with a obd2 reader and techstream reports cylinder 4 misfire

Installed all new spark plugs and new ignition coil on cylinder 4 however no difference

May be looking to purchase a new injector

any other ideas?

First spray some brake cleaner around the area where the manifold meets the head (engine running) if the engine dies or the idle changes replace the intake gasket (Victor Reinz are good quality) *do this at your own risk

Swap injector 3 and 4 and see if the misfire moves, if so it's a failing injector

Leads to the coilpacks ok? Check for any breaks in the main harness

Perhaps it is the injector you moved to cylinder 2 and the fault code for cylinder 4 is historic, did you clear the code?

Cleared engine light , took for a test drive flashing engine light came back , cylinder 2 and 4, car is running really rough. Worse than before when it was cylinder 4 only. Coil pack wiring checked with multimeter all showing 12V

Coil pack on cylinder 2 was faulty. So Replaced that. Cylinder 4 is still the Same misfiring.

Just to be sure, I would pull and inspect the spark plug, and possibly try it in one of the other cylinders, if it doesn't look bad. NEW stands for Never Ever Works! Cheaper test than a new injector. If you are still suspecting an injector fault, throw a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank and see how it goes. I like this one with PEA in it: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/fuel-and-oil-additives/wynns-xtreme-petrol-system-clean---325ml-130660.html

There is a chance the coil pack is breaking down on the HT side and shorting to earth in the plug recess/tunnel?

When is the last time it had a set of plugs ? Go with Denso plugs if you need to change them

Tried a brand new injector on cylinder 4 but still misfiring so old injector is fine.

So some of the likely culprits could be bad fuel, some slight partial blockage in the fuel line to injector 4, a sticky valve or a coil driver fault in the ECM. Can you detect the misfire yourself, by sound or feel of the running engine? Sometimes the misfire sensor can get confused as to which cylinder is misfiring. Have you tried running it to just about empty, then filling it with premium fuel? Shell Energy or BP Ultimate or similar.

Change the plugs to Denso ones also make sure to torque them to spec - 20nm

Is it the 1.3 2SZFE or the 1.33 1NRFE you have ?

The 1.33 is very picky with what plugs it likes

It’s the 1.3 engine 2008 car , I have tried various different things but the misfire will not go away

Have you tried the brake clean trick ? 3 and 4 can have issues with the intake manifold (may only occur when hot) - change the gasket with a good quality one

Thanks for the help people , I have given the car to a garage to see if they can find the problem. Does anyone know why the rear heated screen isn’t working on a 2009 Toyota Aygo?

I don’t think theirs any A/C gas , I’ve checked the rear screen and theirs a wire pulled off with the connector snapped. I believe that’s for the heater screen. Does anyone know where I can access the parts catalogue or if I can order connectors

IIRC it's a standard spade, but it's usually the terminal on the glass that snaps off
