Parked up for an hour I double clicked the starter button to power the window.  Maybe left the power on, not sure

When we tried to start, all the lights came on, but when pressed the button, nothing.   Took key out went all through the process, nuthin

Spent 20mins looking for rescue phone number, and now it worked

What did I do to make it go wrong?

You say that all the lights came on, but it wouldn't start?

Is there any chance that this is down to you forgetting to put your foot on the clutch/brake pedal? I had a similar experience with a Verso years ago (so I think it might have been a similar vintage) and had to refer to the handbook, so presumably there weren't any obvious indicator lights to tell me what I was doing wrong.

(the annoying thing is that I would always put my foot on the clutch when starting a car, it was just this time that I didn't...)

Tx for the suggestion

It's not the clutch, herself who was at the wheel got quite marked when I mentioned that

Actually I'm thinking it's the Battery, we finished our journey 250km, and 15mins later same thing

You would think that it wouldn’t be the Battery because after a long journey of 250km it would be fully charged up. Could be the solenoid switch, could be a bad earth, is the alternator providing enough charge to the Battery, any loose connections on the Battery??

It's night now but I'll have a look around in the morning

I was thinking that the Battery is kaput so not charging.   I can say when I press the starter button the panel illumination goes out.

Thanks

What reasons have you to think that your Battery is in end of life. Is it old? Is it struggling to turn the starter?

Did the dash lights go off when this was initially happening?  You mention they do subsequently.

If so, then I would be checking the integrity of the main Battery wiring, including the earths.  A slightly imperfect connection (2007 car, so enough time for corrosion to have got into the connectors), with a starting current of say, 200 amps, could give a large voltage drop across that connection - result: everything turns off when an attempt is made to turn the engine over.

Age of Battery, over 4 years.

No sign of problem until yesterday, Door locking, lights all seem good

Connections seem firm

Thanks

I dont know if the dash lights dimmed when this firts happened.

I'm going to see what cleaning agents I can get in the local supermarket (bicarb the internet tells me) and have a crack at the contacts

Thanks

I got it to a garage today, showed me Battery knackered, but now reckon it's the starter motor.  Ouch
