2007 Auris rusty metal tube at rear?

Checking underneath my 2007 Auris today, there is a metal tube that is very rusty. What is it?

Hi, I believe it’s called a cross bar member or something similar. It adds a structural rigidity to the chassis. This is only a surface rust and nothing to worry about. Although if you prefer you can apply some rust converter and then paint it with black paint. This is what I had done to mine including rear suspension beam. They look much better then after .

Yes, use any rust converter, either phosphate acid or tannin base. 4 hours later, you can spray it with spray paint that contains primer. Lidl usually sold them and they stick to everything for £3

How did you paint this? Just on the axle stands? Does the spray can work on that angle?

Yes on the stands. I applied rust converter and painted next day with black paint spray. Looks much better than before, it’s like an anchor of an old ship that been restored 😂👌
