Faulty Immobiliser Avensis 06

Hi,

I bought a second hand Toyota Avensis 2006 last year. All worked fine up until a week a go when the central locking stopped working. Replaced the Battery then one of the buttons fell off the circuit board. This was re soldered on but it's still causing an issue. I can hear it lock but then it won't unlock no matter what I try.

is it possible to just replace the immobiliser section in the key fob?

Does the central locking work with the key in the door and/or the lock/unlock switch button in the car ?

The immobilizer is a passive chip in the corner of the key - without it the car will not start, the circuit board is just for the locking what is user programmable

get a new pcb (standard 2 button key)

eg.

I can get a signal for locking it, but not unlocking. Then sometimes, if I take it apart and put back together the unlock button randomly works and opens the central locking.
Once the central locking is open the car starts fine, we just can't lock it in case we can't get back in.

I ordered one of these before you'd replied. Only concern is if it's the right frequency.

Does the T250 have a lock/unlock switch ?

433mhz is right, you either need to swap the PCB over to your key or the chip and blade into the new one

They key I had with the car has 3 buttons. Lock, unlock and boot (which we never use).

Actually in the car by the window switches you will have a lock/unlock switch (just in front of the driver's side switch - pic of a door with a key on it)

unplug the window switch then try the fob

Do you know if I'll need to do any home programming for the replacement I've ordered or should it just work out of the box?

You will need to reprogram the fob (locks only) the immobilizer is a passive chip

1. Driver door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition
2. Insert the key and remove 2 times in 5 sec.
3. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.
4. Insert the key and remove it again from ignition.
5. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.
6. Insert the key in the ignition,
7. Close the door,
8. Turn the ignition on for 2 seconds, then off
9. Remove the key
10. The lock will cycle to confirm
11. Within 40 sec of the confirmation..............

A. Press Lock and Unlock buttons of the FOB at the same time
B. within 3 sec, press Lock button, for more than 1 sec and release.
C. If  correct, the power door lock will cycle once. If it's incorrect, the door lock will cycle twice.

Sorry, do I do that once I've received the new key and fob and had the key cut to the original one? Or do I take the immobiliser section out of the new one, and place in existing key unit then do the above.

It depends on if you are putting the new board in your key, or you are going to use the new key and put your immobilizer chip in it

Either way, you need a key that starts the car to programme the lock/unlock buttons

Ideally I'd like to use the whole new key and immobiliser and discount the old one that's given up the ghost.

When reprogramming this, is there any risk of it not working and causing even more problems? Or, if it doesn't work, all that will happen is the central locking/immobiliser won't work?

Ended up having to get a mobile car key guys out. Key from eBay no good. He could only charge me half price for his as despite spending a long time on it, and coming back for a second time with numerous different keys, we couldn't get the remote central locking to work. Followed the process correctly, as soon as we go to: C. If  correct, the power door lock will cycle once. If it's incorrect, the door lock will cycle twice. Cycles once, so all good. Then we open the door and won't work.

I'm able to use it in the actual door lock though. Just frustrating that the remote locking won't work.

It took me like, a bazillion attempts to get it to work on my old Mk1 Yaris, and that's easier to get working than the procedure for coding a new key!!

You have to do it quite fast but also accurately and smoothly. I think they are using dog seconds* and not human seconds in the instructions...

*Just because I just *know* someone will ask, this is a joke, meaning dog seconds are shorter than human seconds, i.e. do it faster than the time it says to do it in!
