A/C dead

Hi everybody,

it appears that my 2008 Avensis T25 2AD-FTV has some troubles with the A/C. It just does not engage.
Nothing.
It has freon - when I push the little fill valve down with a key, gas shoots out. I didn't find any leaks, everthing is dry as it should be.

If I activate the A/C, the control light comes on, and stays on, it does not flash, but the ECU does not engage the fans nor does it increase the idle speed, which it did previously by some 50 rpm or so...

As if the A/C wasn't even installed in the car....

The compressor is a clutchless style..

Does anybody have some ideas or experience, what I can check or what could be the culprit?

Thanks in advance!

The A/C light is only an indicator that the buls in the switch is ok, it bears no relation to the functionality of the system.  i.e. It's only to tell you that you've switched it on.

And, just because you can release the gas doesn't mean there is enough gas in it for the system to work.

You need to have it checked by someone who knows about A/C systems.

You need a gauge

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/air-con/a%2Fc-pro-air-con-reusable-trigger-and-gauge-537942.html

But Halfords will test the pressure for free, they also can do a full diagnostic. I used the gauge with stp recharge a few years ago and it is still good, even during the extreme temperatures of last summer. Though mine is 2007 model, much better then on my Yaris 2005 which can take 20 minutes to start working.

Low on gas symptoms. Check with AC machine for leaks and refill with gas and oil. Air con specialist or any garage with suitable equipment.
