My car has  an annoying rattle in either the drivers door or right corner of the dash, it only happens on really badly surfaced roads so i have put up with it but its beginning to get annoying, has anyone else had to put up with this and did you find the cause.

Yes mine rattles there as well, it seems to be the A pillar trim around the tweeter, because if I press on that area the rattle / squeek stops. I think it is temperature dependent, as it tends to rattle worse on colder days especially after I just set off from the car being parked. Once the car warms up the rattle seems to stop. Temperature related expansion and contraction of the plastic trims basically, when they contract they rattle, or that's how I see it anyway. My drivers inside door trim around the handle / arm rest squeeks like crazy when it is touched, and the carpet round the fuel filler door release lever also squeeks when pressed, down to the sound deadening material under the carpet squeeking - my Mk2 was bad for this as well, its like polystyrene insulation under the carpets squeeking against the car's floor. My mother's 19 plate Icon Tech also has squeeks from under the carpets in the footwells too.

Thanks, i have found a temporary solution i bought  some self adhesive velcro strips and have stuck a small pencil rubber to the end of the dash so when the door shuts it presses on the dash and so far has stopped the rattle.

Neccessity is the mother of invention and poverty is deemed to be the father 😁 but no DNA test is available at this point in time 😂🤪

Check the diagnostic socket too. I experienced a similar rattle which seemed to come from right side dash area. It was lower down though. A small piece of foam, suitably pushed in, sorted that.

I initially thought it was that silly/useless little "storage" cubby under the r.h. side air outlet.

The thought of the expense of having a garage take the dash out to find the culprit fills me with dread  😄
